and attractions are what these trips are
all about, and Royal Caribbean Cruise
Line can take pride in its offerings of
satisfaction.
REMEMBERING SOME spots of
yesteryears ...
Mr. McGinny's Tin Goose, Grand
River west of Telegraph ... changed
from McGinnis' Sing-Along in honor
of the old Ford tri-motor "Tin Goose"
... The center of attention was still the
lively organists who led the roaring
evening sing-a-longs in newly redeco-
rated surroundings with a 1930s
theme that featured the Tin Goose.
Rikshaw Inn, Orchard Lake Road,
West Bloomfield, now inhabited by
the fine Shangri-La restaurant in
Orchard Mall, was where David Lum
offered extensive and diversified
gourmet Oriental cuisine plus, on
request, skillfully prepared European
gourmet dishes ... (In fact, many felt
that he served the best steak Diane
available at the time) ... A number of
the Oriental recipes included unusual
spices and ingredients flown in from
San Francisco's Chinatown ... Given
notice, David could prepare just about
any dish customers wanted ... The ser-
vice was good and the atmosphere
contemporary, with a Far Eastern flair;
both comfortable and attractive ... A
very nice touch were the special dishes
offered for vegetarians and those on
diets ... (David is back in action with
his Eurasian Grill on Haggerty and
Pontiac Trail.)
The Nickelodeon, M-15 in Clark-
ston ... It was back to the 1920s and
`30s in a fun-for-the-whole-family
atmosphere where the food was All-
American and portions were huge ... A
real nickelodeon played for free amidst
dozens of antique conversation pieces
... while a live parrot pranced in the
window.
Mr. Paul's Chop House, Groesbeck
in. Roseville ... where host/owner Paul
Gogo held the reins of this popular
restaurant, assisted by his two sons,
two daughters and two brothers ...
Folks who enjoyed flaming dishes
ordered the chateaubriand or shish-
kebab ... A good special Caestr salad
was also prepared at your table.
The Schmid Haus, on 12 Mile,
Warren, that became Meritage, Arriva
Italia and now Eddie Pawl's Arriva
(just Eddie Pawl's after 1998 begins)
had all sorts of imaginative touches at
Herb Schmid's nautical-style restau-
rant to complement the German dish-
es ... During Lent, for example, there
was a seafood buffet on ice displayed
in a large boat, with desserts served
