Obituaries

Dr. B. Stamell,
Child Psychiatrist

Dr. Benjamin Stamell, 85, former
Detroiter of Potomac, Md., died
Nov. 28. Dr. Stamell was in the first
group of reserve medical officers to
be called to active duty by the Sixth
Service Command in preparation
for World War II.
He became an assistant executive
officer after being appointed
Women's Army Corps examiner. He
also was chairman of the Aviation
Cadet Board. He served in battle for
the Philippines and the invasion of
Japan. He retired as a major in
1946.
Following service,
Dr. Stamell obtained a
fellowship in child
psychiatry with
Couzens Foundation
at the Children's
Center of
Metropolitan Detroit.
In 1951, he directed
the mental hygiene
clinic at the health ser-
vices of Wayne State
University. In 1955,
Dr. Stamell opened his
office for the practice of child psy-
chiatry, one of the earliest private
practices in this specialty in the
United States.
He became a life member of the
Michigan Society of Neurology and
Psychiatry. He was the founder of
the Macomb County Child
Guidance Clinic. In addition, Dr.
Stamell was a consultant to the
Family Service of Macomb County,

a life fellow of the American
Psychiatric Association and the
American Orthopsychiatric
Association, founder and editor of
the Wayne State Medical Bulletin.
Together with Dr: H. Salzstein, Dr.
Stamell founded the Bulletin of the
North End Center, and he was one
of the founding physicians of Sinai
Hospital.
He served as president of the Phi
Delta Epsilon graduate fraternity,
and was on the boards of directors
of the Jewish Community Center,
the men's club of
Temple Beth El and
the Fresh Air Society.
Dr. Stamell is sur-
vived by his daughter
and son-in-law, Judith
and Sheldon
Grosberg of Potomac,
Md.; sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Jared and
Susan Stamell of New
York, Jonathan and
Palmer Stamell of
Portland, Mass.; eight
grandchildren; broth-
er, Dr. Myer Stamell; sister, Ruth
Green of Boca Raton, Fla. Dr.
Stamell was the beloved husband of
the late Jennie Stamell.
Interment at Beth El Memorial
Park. Contributions may be made
to the Jason Tickton Music Fund,

ETHEL BURKE ABRAMS, 87, of
Southfield, died Dec. 2.
Mrs. Abrams is survived by her
husband, Morris Abrams; daughters
and son-in-law, Brenda Worth of
Bloomfield Hills, Myrna and Spencer
Partrich of Bloomfield Hills;
stepchildren, Mitchell Abrams,
Cheryl Abrams, Tina Bassett; grand-
children, Alana Worth, David and
Lori Worth, Ross and Samantha
Partrich, Andrea and Joel Brown; sis-
ter, Evelyn Goldack of Toronto. She
was the beloved wife of the late
Albert Burke.
Contributions may be made to the
Hospice of Southeastern Michigan,

Southfield, MI 48076. Interment at
Machpelah Cemetery. Arrangements
by the Ira Kaufman Chapel.

LOU ABRAMS, 87, former Detroiter
of Davie, Fla., died Nov. 28.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline
Abrams; daughter and son-in-law,
Debby and Robert Scott of Dundee,
Mich.; grandchildren, James, Kelly,
Matthew, Brian; 15 great-grandchil-
dren.
Contributions may be made to the
Jewish Federation Apartments, 6690
West Maple Road, West Bloomfield,
MI 48322. Services and interment
were held at Adat Shalom Memorial
Park in Livonia. Arrangements by
Hebrew Memorial Chapel.

ANNE ATTENSON, 92, of
Bloomfield Hills, died Dec. 2. Mrs.
Attenson was a life member and past
officer of Hadassah and helped estab-
lish the Golda Meir Chapter. She
volunteered at Belfaire Home, Jewish
Convalescent Hospital and opened
her house to needy children.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, Dr. Myron and

Marilyn Attenson of Bloomfield
Hills; grandchildren, Ryan and Alyse
Attenson, Cindy Attenson, Jill
Attenson; great-grandchildren,
Mollie and David Attenson. She was
the beloved wife of the late Peter
Attenson.
Interment in Cleveland.
Contributions may be made to the
Hospice of Southeastern Michigan,

Southfield, MI 48076, or any chil-
dren's charity. Arrangements by the

REVEKKA BOUNINA, 86, of West
Bloomfield, died Nov. 30.
She is survived by her daughters
and son-in-law, Olga Markar-
Limanov and Lev Lilov of West
Bloomfield, Valentina Chopenko of
Russia; grandchildren, Sergei,
Dmitry Gusev. Mrs. Bounina was
the beloved wife of the late Peter
Chopenko.
Contributions may be made to a
charity of one's choice. Interment at
B'nai Israel Memorial Gardens in
Novi. Services and arrangements by
Hebrew Memorial Chapel.

STEVEN IRVING BURK, 43, for-
merly of Oak Park of Reno, Nev.,
died Nov. 3.
He is survived by his wife, Karen
Abrams of Reno; sister, Wendy Burk
of LaJolla, Calif; niece, Victoria Burk
Pershin. He was the son of the late
Sidney Burk and the late Jenny Burk.

DOROTHY GOLDSTEIN, 89, of
West Bloomfield, died Nov. 26.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, Larry and Marie
Grant of Bloomfield Hills; daughter
and son-in-law, Roslyn Reynolds and
William Brescia of New York; broth-
er and sister-in-law, Louis and
Evelyn Zalk of Oak Park; sister,
Marian Goldman of West
Bloomfield; 10 grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Goldstein
was the beloved wife of the late
Ruben H. Goldstein; loving mother
of the late Dr. Jack Goldstein; loving
sister of the late Gertrude Trager.
Contributions may be made to a
charity of one's choice. Interment at
Hebrew Memorial Park. Services and
arrangements by Hebrew Memorial
Chapel.

MORRIE GRAFF, 80, of
Farmington Hills, died Nov. 28.
