JPM Hosts
Senior Events

Rabbi Simon Feld, director of the
Jewish community chaplaincy program,
will speak about his 22 years in the
armed services at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec.
1, at the Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center. There is no charge.
Su Nigoff of Su's Muse, New and
Views, will present creative readings
and storytelling 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec.
4, at the JPM. There is a fee for non-
members.

BBYO Plans

Area Convention

Applications for the Evan Shapiro and
Matthew Doren Leadership Awards
are due at the BBYO Chapter Service
Center on Monday, Dec. 1. Each
award offers a $1,000 scholarship. An
essay is required with each application.
Winners will be announced at the
Michigan Regional BBYO
Convention.
Regional Convention will be held at
the West Bloomfield JCC from Dec.
21-25. Coordinators are Andrew
Ceifetz of Kishon AZA and Sammi
Klein of Disraeli BBG.
Chapter entries for the pre-regional
contests are due on Dec. 1 at the BBYO
Chapter Service Center. Auditions for
the Regional Convention talent show
will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3,
at the Maple/Drake JCC. Each chapter
will be assigned an individual time to
audition.
The AZA and BBG council meet-
ings will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.
2, at the Maple/Drake JCC. Deadline
for AZA chapters to register their
teams for the AZAA Basketball League
is Dec. 2.

NCJW Offers
Youth Awards

The National Council of Jewish
Women Greater Detroit Section is
accepting applications from exceptional
high school seniors for the annual
Jewish Youth Awards.
To qualify, a student must be a high
school senior with at least a 3.0 grade
point average, have a formal Jewish
education (having become bar/bat mitz-
vah, been consecrated or confirmed, or
attended Monday school); be actively
involved in the Jewish community; and
submit the completed application form,

a signed letter of recommendation from
a person in authority from the sponsor-
ing organization, temple or synagogue,
and a one-page typed essay on the
topic "How Important is Jewish
Unity?"
All applicants must submit eight
copies of all materials to the NCJW
office, 26400 Lahser Road, Suite 100,
Southfield, MI 48034, prior to Jan. 23.
All applicants will be interviewed by
a panel of judges on Sunday, March 1
or March 8. Finalists are expected to
attend the awards ceremony on Sunday,
April 5.

Judge Barry M. Grant, chief judge pro
tem of the Oakland County Probate
Court, was elected as national president
by the probate judges of the National
College of Probate Judges.

Judge Edward Sosnick, Oakland
County Circuit Judge, has been reap-
pointed as the court's chief judge for a
second term. He has been a circuit
judge since 1989.

Liza Zador of West Bloomfield is study-
ing at the University of Haifa's Overseas
Studies Department.
