Akiva Holds
Auction Event

Interfaith
Family Event

Akiva Day School will host its annual
Chinese auction 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov.
23, at Congregation Beth Achim. "A
Night of Wine Sc Roses" is open to the
public and there is an $18 admission
price, which includes buffet and sweet-
table reservations.

The Interfaith Connection will host
an evening for interfaith families 8:30
p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at My Place,
3610 West Maple (corner of Lahser)
next to Farmer Jack in the Village
Knoll.
Adults will exchange ideas about
interfaith family issues, while the chil-
dren participate in hands-on activities.
Child care will also be provided for
ages 1 and up. Entertainment and
refreshments will be provided.
Each family will receive a free gift
just for attending. This is a free corn-
munity-wide project of the Jewish
Federation of Metro Detroit, the
Agency for Jewish Education and
Jewish Family Service.

Single Moms
Social Action

Single Jewish mothers and their chil-
dren 10 years and older are invited to
participate in a social action day with
Jewish Family Service's Thanksgiving
Project. Jewish Experiences for Families'
Institute for Single Jewish Mothers wel-
comes participants to meet at Yad Ezra
on Monday, Nov. 24, to held distribute
Thanksgiving dinner baskets to those in
need in our community.
Shift 1 is scheduled from 3:45-4:45
p.m. and will involve organizing food.
Shift 2, basket distribution from Yad
Ezra (no driving required), will begin at
5 p.m. Shift 3, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. will
entail clean up and storing of food for
future distribution to Yad Ezra clients.
Volunteers are needed for all shifts.
Yad Ezra is at 26641 Harding Road
(one block east of Greenfield Road off
of 11 Mile Road) in Oak Park To vol-

Educators
Workshop Series

The NIRIM Professional Enrichment
program of the Agency for Jewish
Education will hold a two-part work-
shop series for Jewish educators of all
grades.
Corinne Stavish will present
"H.U.G.S: Having, Using, Giving
Stories in the Classroom," 7:15- 9:15
p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 3 and 10.
Both sessions will be held at the
Agency for Jewish Education in
Southfield and are free of charge. Jewish
Educators enrolled in the NIRIM pro-
gram will receive four units for complet-
ing the two-part program. Those inter-
ested in attending must register with
school directors by Thursday, Nov. 27.

Historical Women
Talks Continue

Professor Moshe Rosman, Padnos vis-
iting professor of Judaic studies in the
history department at the University
of Michigan at Ann Arbor and
Deutsch Family Visiting Scholar in
Jewish history at Congregation B'nai
Moshe, will continue his Monday
night lecture
series,
"Written
Back into the
Story:
Women in
Jewish
History,"
with sessions
on Nov. 24
("Women in
the
Traditional
Jewish
Moshe Rosman
Economy"),
and Dec. 1
("Women and the Process of Jewish
Modernization"). The lectures begin at
8 p.m. and are held at the synagogue.
Tuition is $7 per session ($5 per
session for members of B'nai Moshe).
All adult learners are invited to partici-
pate.
In addition to the Monday series,
Professor Rosman will lead a Shabbat
Yom Iyun (day of learning) at B'nai
Moshe on Saturday, Dec. 13, titled
"How To Run A Jewish Community:
The Case of Poland."
