RABBI PAUL STEPHEN REIS, 50,
of Flint, died Nov. 5. Rabbi Reis was
the spiritual leader of Congregation
Beth Israel of Flint for the past 14
years. He represented the Jewish
Community of Flint through his
involvement in many educational,
civic, and interfaith organizations,
including the Ivriah, the Rabbinical
Assembly, the Metropolitan Detroit
Board of Rabbis, the Flint Jewish
Federation, Jewish Family and
Children's Services, the International
Institute, Project Genesis, the Flint
Jewish Caucus of the Genesee County
Democratic Party and the Bio-
Medical Board of Genesys Hospital.
Rabbi Reis received his bachelor of
arts degree from Rutgers University in
1969, his master of arts degree from
New York University and his rabbini-
cal ordination from the Academy for
Jewish Religion in 1973. He served in
the United States Army Reserve from
1969-72.
His Rabbinical career included
pulpits in Oneonta, N.Y.,
Morgantown, W.Va., Pittsburgh, Pa.,
and Flint. He was Hillel director at
West Virginia University and college
campuses throughout North
Carolina.
Rabbi Reis is survived by his wife
of 24 years, Sara; children, Ezra, Ari
and Efrem, all of Flint; mother,
Edith; siblings, Irwin and Bonnie
Reis, Rob and Rachel Kornbluh. He
was the loving son of the late Fred
Reis.
Interment in Clifton, N.J.
Contributions may be made to
Congregation Beth Israel, 5240
Calkins Road, Flint, MI 48532. This
announcement was placed at the
request of the family by the Ira
Kaufman Chapel.

GWENONA SCHWARTZ, 87, of
Birmingham, died Nov. 10. Mrs.
Schwartz was a very active Democrat.
She is survived by her sister, Betty
Venola of Ocala, Fla.; niece and
nephew, Sandy and Ivan Scholnick of
Beverly Hills. She was the beloved
wife of the late Frank Schwartz.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be
