Israelis were given 10 years.

rency accounts in Israeli banks; resi-
dents being permitted to transfer
money between foreign-currency
accounts (from one unrestricted for-
eign-currency account to another); the
lifting of all restrictions on investment
in foreign securities by mutual funds;
and non-residents being permitted to
convert local currency deposited with
the Bank of Israel into foreign curren-
cy, even if it does not originate from a
foreign-currency source.

Orange Issue

Jerusalem (JPFS) — The European
Union is demanding that Israel prove
that it is no longer exporting Brazilian
orange juice under an Israeli label to
the EU.
The issue was first raised four years
ago, a European Commission source
said.

The EU charges that since 1993,
Israel has been mixing Brazilian with
Israeli oranges and exporting the juice
to Europe, exploiting its favorable
trade status, a Commission official
said. He said that the South American
fruit does not qualify for trade privi-
leges.
A Commission source said that
Israel hasn't come through with
requested proof that it has stopped
mixing the Israeli and Brazilian
oranges.
Both sides have been trying to keel,–
the issue out of the limelight, in the
hope that the matter could be amica-
bly resolved. However Israel's alleged
refusal to cooperate has met with con-
