told them Yiddish stories and instilled
in them many of her own Jewish val-
ues.
Over the years, I have read many of
the obituaries you have printed. You
describe the deceased in terms of their
previous positions at work or the clubs
to which they belonged. As a woman
and as a Jew, I am outraged and
offended that The Detroit Jewish News

ture is so vast that no single branch of
Judaism, no matter how old, can
embrace all of it. Orthodox Jews may
choose the psalms for comfort; secular
Jews may choose the poetry of Leah
Goldberg and Yehuda Amichai.
Conservative Jews may choose the
Talmudic criterion of maternal descent
for Jewish unity; Reform Jews may

validity of every choice. We simply
have to be humble enough to under-
stand that we are El
