My GreAt KiD
CHANT S1NGAL
was listening to the radio, WNI C
100.3, when I heard about a din
per derby. I have a 10-1 /2- '---\
month-old, Chani, so my ears
perked right up.
I sent in a fax, and a few days
later I got a call from the radio sta-(
tion. Chani was entered in the race.
My husband, Ephraim, Chani, my
two brothers and sister and I went,- --"
the State Fair
grounds, where
we were told we
would be in the'
second of five
races.
The first rule: we
couldn't touch 07----/
baby, but we
could crawl next to or in front of her.
The race area was a red carpet.
Babies had to crawl from one end !c'
another. Chani came right to me! It L.
was a close race, but we won.
We advanced to the finals, where
we would race the winners of the
other four races.
At first, Chani was a little scared
and was holding tightly to me. But
as the final race began I gently puti
her down. It wasn't easy. It was
clear she really wanted to be back
in my arms, and so she was moving
at the speed of Superman. (Actually,_,
Chani doesn't really crawl like a nor-)
mal baby. She scoots, sitting on her
behind with one leg in front. Contest,
organizers called her "The Scooter.' T
And then the big news: she won!
We won gift certificates and had a
lot of fun, but I think Chani has had
enough of contests for a while!
