Counting The Days
Here's a great way to start a new Jewish year!

hildren can begin each day
their way with a calendar, cel-
ebrating the new Jewish year,
\/--- -they make themselves.
(Note: This project works best with
children aged 5 and older)
You will need:
a large blank calendar
photographs
pens and pencils (for drawing)
pictures from magazines
ribbons and other bric-a-brac
stickers
old postcards
photographs
Here are some ideas for what to
mark on your calendar:
Purim - begins March 11
Pesach - begins April 10
Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Memorial
Day) - April 23
Yom Yerushalyim - May 24
Shavuot - beings May 30
Family Birthda
Ask mothers and fathers, brot ers
and sisters, uncles and aunts, grand-
mothers and grandfathers, first
cousins and second cousins and
third cousins and — you get the
idea — for pictures of themselves
(the smaller the better). Cut out and
place on the space marking their
birthday and never forget anyone's
happy occasion again.

The Jewish
Holidays
Yom Kippur
-
begins Oct. 10
Sukkot - begins of Oct. 15
Simchat Torah - begins Oct. 23
Chanukah - begins Dec. 23
Mark the beginning of winter,
spring, summer and fall with great
finds like a favorite leaf from a sum-
mer walk, forget-me-not seeds to
plant in the spring, or recipes.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In
large bowl, mix applesauce, eggs,
oil and honey. In another bowl, corn-
bine dry ingredients, then add to
applesauce mixture. Pour batter into
cups of a non-stick muffin tin. Bake
20 minutes.
You Said It
If parents find a great quote or say-
ing that can inspire children, write it
on the calendar on an otherwise
blank day. Start the morning on a
great note by telling your child the
saying, and ask him to keep it in
mind all day.
