legacy of this colorful and gutsy
businessman lives on in his family,
which still owns the company, and
the staff that he cultivated to pub-
lish award-winning independent
publications.
Behind everyone's favorite "Chuck
story" is the memory of a man
who challenged us to live by his
motto: work hard, have fun. His
memory is already a blessing.

Industries donates $30 million to
Technion. Early indications are that
Sinai Hospital will merge with the
Detroit Medical Center. The result, it
is announced, could be a huge multi-
million dollar fund to benefit the
Jewish community.
The Buerger legacy continues as
Andrew Buerger, the former Jewish
News marketing director, is named
publisher of the Baltimore Jewish
Times, succeeding his late father,
Charles Buerger.

Indeed, the DMC-Sinai sale draws
closer with talked-about numbers in
the $50-60-million range. The Jewish
Fund was announced immediately as a
result of the Sinai sale. The Fund will
provide support to new Jewish immi-
grants, the continuation of Sinai ser-
vices to existing Jewish agencies and
other important community methods

The Sinai sale is completed. Dr.
William Pinsky, senior vice president
at the DMC and associate dean at the
Wayne State University School of
Medicine, takes over as CEO from
Philip Schaengold.
State inspections of kosher facilities
shows some disturbing results. The
state halts admissions to the newly
opened Marvin and Betty Danto
Family Health Center due to sloppy
record keeping and poor patient care.
