center known as Dallas,
Texas.
While the city itself has about 1
million people, the metro area boasts
almost 4.5 million; of these, 50,000 ,
are Jews.
The Jewish community is an active,
well-organized one. The Jewish
Federation of Greater Dallas is the
central coordinating agency. Founded
in 1911, the federation (one of the
first in the United States) supports
over 40 human-service programs for
Jews locally, nationally, in Israel and
other overseas locations. -
A fully-staffed and dynamic Jewish
community center is located in Dallas;
and another is nearby Plano, which
serves the northern suburbs.
