NCJW
event
benefits
literacy
project.

ingo is one of the first word
games a beginning reader can
play. And by playing at
"Bingo for Books" last week-
end, a crowd of youngsters —
ages 3-10 — were raising funds to help
their peers for whom reading is a strug-
gle.
Sponsored by the National Council
for Jewish Women's "Just 4 Kids"
group, the event at the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Jewish Community Center
brought in 300 new and gently used
books for use in the Ferndale Public
Schools' Literacy Program.

In addition to donating funds and
books to the program, NCJW volun-
teers provide weekly one-
on-one reading sessions
to children in grades K-3
who are at risk academi-
cally.
But for the 135 chil-
dren enjoying the excite-
ment and prizes on
Sunday, Bingo wasn't
about education or phil-
anthropy, just F-U-N!
