Oak Park's Conservative synagogue
hires its first full-time
executive director.

hings are a-changin' at
Congregation Beth Shalom.
First, the renovation and
construction of a new
school wing. And now, it's first full-
time executive director.
Barbara Pollak Cook took the posi-
tion in June and has been scurrying
ever since: working with members and
committees, doing dues adjustments,
presenting the synagogue to the corn-

munity and making sure "everything
in the synagogue is well-coordinated."
After all these years without an
executive director, why start now?
"Because, really and truly, it's
important that synagogues have good
communications with their members
and between staff, and you really need
somebody to be doing that type of
thing," Cook replies.
A Farmington Hills resident for 25
years and member of Adat Shalom
Synagogue, Cook has three grown
children. Most recently, she occupied
