The American Jewish Committee,
Detroit Chapter, is hosting a family
outing of apple picking, cider and
donuts at Long's U-Pick Apples in
Commerce Township, Sunday,
September 21, 1997 between 1:00 -
3:00 p.m.

Start the Jewish New Year on a
positive note by picking apples for
holiday celebration and donating
the extras to Forgotten Harvest, a
local organizations dedicated to
addressing the issue of hunger.

AJC, founded in 1906, is the
country's oldest human relations
organization. The Detroit chapter
opened in 1945. AJC serves as an
outreach for expressing Judaism
through its four divisions-
International Affairs, National
Affairs, Inter-religious Work and

Southfield, died Sept. 7. 'Mrs. Howard-
was an active member of the Detroit
Music Study Club and other Jewish
organizations.
She is survived by her husband of
70 years, Mark Howard; son and
daughter-in-law, Harvey and Patricia
Howard of Los Angeles; daughter, <
Suzanne Howard of Sante Fe, N.M.;
brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and \
Evelyn Shapero; sister-in-law and
brothers-in-law, Milton and Raquel
Howard and Arthur Howard. She
the dear sister of the late Donald
Shapero.
Interment at Clover Hill Park

BELLE JACOB, 95, former Detroiter ,
of Portland, Ore., died Aug. 28. Mrs.
Jacob was a co-owner of the women's
specialty store on Livernois known as
Belle Jacob Shop.
She is survived by her children, Dr.
Stanley Jacob of Portland and Rita
Selburn of West Bloomfield; many
grandchildren and great-grandchil-
dren.
Services were held in Portland.

IRVING KOPER, 80, of West

Bloomfield, died Sept. 4. For over 40
years, Mr. Koper was an executive at
Camera Mart in Pontiac. He was a
sergeant in the Army during World
War II and was stationed in New
Zealand. Mr. Koper was a member o fl
B'nai B'rith and its bowling league,
member and past officer of B'nai Isra'
and an original member of
Photographic Research.
He is survived by his wife, Anne
Krastof Koper; daughters and sons-in ,
law, Lisa and Albert Fittipaldi of
Texas, Debra and David Nobel of
Ontario; sons and daughters-in-law,
Lawrence and Colleen Koper of
Waterford, Mark and Julia Krastof of
Chicago; grandchildren, Joel and
Amanda Koper, Rachel and Sarah
Nobel, Claire Krastof, Aaron Koper;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and
John Sklar of Farmington Hills,
Shirley Fishman of Plantation, Fla.,
and Rhoda and Sheldon Kushner of
St. Augustine, Fla. Mr. Koper was th(
beloved husband of the late Shirley
Koper; the loving father of the late
Steve Koper, the late Norman Krasto
and the late Gary Krastof.
