No One Puts Baby
In The Corner
Kennedy presided over Camelot, King Jr. had a dream and
Eleanor Bergstein had a summer romance at Grossinger's resort
in the Borsht-Belt Catskills in 1963 - at least she might have.
Her loosely autobiographical screenplay Dirty Dancing caused a
clamor 10 years ago - the story of bookish Baby visiting the
Catskills with her family; she glimpses a smoky scene of "dirty
dancing' in the off-limits staff lounge, which will change her life.
Says Patrick Swayze, who co-starred with Jennifer Grey, "the
folkie Jewish girl gets the guy because of what's in her heart."
The fairy tale film has returned to two area big screens for a lim-
ited time; check listings at the Star Southfield, ((248) 372-2222,
and AMC Abbey, ((248) 588-0881, for times.

A Gem
Twenty-year-old Jewel Kilcher carries with her, wherever
she goes, a Tupperware container filled with soil dug from
the 800-acre Alaskan homestead where she was raised and
where her yodeling routine, at age 6, became a regular act.
But it was at Michigan's Interlochen Fine Arts Academy on
a vocal scholarship that Jewel first took up a guitar. The
rest is - you know. Jewel appears 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5.
