WE'RE FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE

ho is Eric Pfeffer? In-
ternationally he's
known as the president
and managing director
of the new global services division
of EfFS Incorporated, the world's
largest franchiser of hotels and
residential real-estate brokera-
geofaces.
In Israel, he's a regular hero.
In just 15 years, the 45-year-old
Israeli rose from desk clerk of a
hotel in Miami, to president of
one of America's biggest hotel
chains. It's one of those success
stories that Israelis love to hear.

bankrupt," says Pfeffer. "If some-
one was rude to a waitress, he'd
throw them out. He didn't have
a restaurant mentality, especial-
ly for Jaffa."
Every day after high school,
Pfeffer would take two buses to
the restaurant to watch over the
cash register while his father,
who got up at 4 a.m. every day,
rested.
"He was control-oriented," says
Pfeffer. "I learned an important
lesson though, that the ringing, of
cash registers is music to my ears.
Basically, a company's report
card is its bottom line. I never for-
get that. In corporations, people
tend to go from pay
check to pay check. I
always know the bot-
tom line."
After high school,
Pfeffer served in the
army and fought in
the Yom Kippur
War. Afterward, he
planned to study in-
dustrial engineering
at the Technion, but
two friends persuad-
ed him that, with his
language skills, the

studying hotel man-
