Visit the Zona Rosa, a 24-
square block area located at the
eastern end of Chapultepac Park.
Most of the city's finest hotels,
restaurants and shops are here.
The urban park is one of the
largest in the world. The park in-
cludes museums, a zoo, a lake,
botanical gardens and jogging
paths.
Paseo de la Reforma is a wide
boulevard bedecked with monu-
ments to honor prominent Mexi-
cans.
University City is worth visit-
ing. The oldest functioning uni-
versity in the western
hemisphere, it was established in
1553. The 12,500 acre campus
was extensively refurbished in the
1950s.
Outstanding museums in Mex-
ico City include the National Mu-

Museum of History. Museo de
Arte Modern and a classical mu-

Sunday, you might think the en-
tire Jewish population is at the
center's sprawling complex on Av-
enue Avila Camacho.
All of Mexico City's Jews are
represented by the Comite Cen-
tral Israelita (Central Jewish
Committee) located at Cofre de
Perote 115 in Lomas Barrilaco.
The same building houses Tri-
buna Israelita, the human-rela-
tions arm of the community.
The largest constituent of the
Comite Central is Nidhei Israel,
the Ashkenazi central body. La
Union Sefardi represents
Sephardic Jews.
The Ashkenazic community
center is at 70 Acapulco St. It
houses two kosher restaurants, a
synagogue, a library and a Holo-
caust museum. The center is a
good place to call for information
about current Jewish events and
sights.
Bet-El Synagogue on Horacio
1722 is the first in the country to
align itself with Conservative Ju-
daism. If you want to visit a syn-
agogue, the best time is lunchtime
or in the early evening.
The Jewish cultural event of
the year is the annual music fes-
tival, usually held in October and
November. World-class Jewish
artists perform in the Palace of
Fine Arts. If the festival is not on
when you are in town, a visit to
the palace is still worthwhile;
housed in the palace is the famous
Ballet Folklorico.
There are many other sites in
the 7,000-foot high Mexico City.
A great place to start a tour is
Zocalo Plaza. In addition to shops
