White Water Reunion

When I saw almost 20 "young-adulters" at Mai Thai
one night a few weeks ago, I knew it had to be for
more than just the apple salad and satay. It was.
On Memorial Day weekend, the Fresh Air Soci-
ety helped organize a white-water rafting trip to the
New River in West Virginia. Almost 60 folks went
along, and the purpose of the dinner was to share
pictures, reminisce, gossip and visit.
The trip was open to couples and singles, ages 21
and up, and included not only the white water, but
also camping, hiking, rock climbing. The $150 price

included everything, with a bonus of precipitation.
"Oy vay, the rain" was a familiar refrain!
Barb Tunick helped with the reunion and said,
"We had so much fun and [took] so many pictures,
we felt we needed to get together and share some
more laughs."
Karen Davis said, "It's been too long since we've
seen each other." Mark Levine flipped through a pho-
to album, saying that the weekend "was quite 'in-
tents', and oy, the rain kept us on our toes!"
Kimberley Davis said the group on this second an-
nual trip "was dynamic and fun," and she hopes to
have a third trip next year.
The group (pictures) had as good a time at dinner as on the trip. Just look out for those class-five
rapids, and know that no tent or rain-fly in the world really works during a deluge!!

Not doing anything this Sunday (Aug. 17) morn-
ing? How about playing ball and having a nosh?
You don't have to be athletic, and there's no cost,
no groups to join, no forms to sign.
The B'nai B'rith Leadership Network has an
informal pickup softball game at Pioneer Park
in Farmington Hills (Farmington Road, about
1/2 mile north of 13 Mile, on the west side of
Farmington). They supply bagels, juice, softball
equipment (if necessary) and 12-20 players, who
break up into teams and play for a couple of
hours.
Karen Safran and Alan Schwarz organize the
group, whose participants felt left out of the more
competitive leagues. It's co-ed, open to couples
and singles from the roughly 21-35-ish ages.
"It's just an informal, fun way to meet peo-
ple, play a little sports and eat a bit," says Safran.
"We make up the rules as we go along, and most
players usually get at least four or five strikes
before they're out!"
They've been playing since July, and if there's
enough interest, they'll play into the fall. For more
information, call Karen Safran, (248) 788-9428.

Fun Overnight

Heard great things about the "Young Adult
Overnight" at Camp Tamarack (July 18-
19). In conjunction with the camp's 95th an-
niversary, this free, 24-hour camp
experience was open to anyone.
Rick Goren of the Fresh Air Society
helped coordinate the event, which was at-
tended by more than 70 youngish adults.
Everything from Shabbat dinner (remem-
ber the roasted chicken and noodles?) and
singing, to just about every camp activity
you could imagine: mountain biking, horse-
back riding, water skiing, waterfront, a big
bonfire and just hanging out.
Bob Goldsmith, a former counselor, didn't
want to leave. "I really loved camp, and it
was great to be back — a lot has changed
over the years, but the feel was still the
same."
He said the food was better than he re-
membered, and camp seemed a bit small-
er.
More 95th anniversary events are
planned. Call the Fresh Air Society at (248)
661-0600 for information. Li
