BBYO Delegates
To Convene

B'nai B'rith Youth Organization
International Convention will be
held Friday-Thursday, Aug. 15-
21, at B'nai B'rith Perlman Camp
in Starlight, Penn. One of the
chairs of this event is Shari Katz,
who was Michigan Region BBG
President, 1996-97, and is serv-
ing as the International BBG first
vice president.
The delegates this year are
David Rochkind, Marx AZA; Eric
Feldman and Andy Schwartz,
Kishon AZA; Mike Shapiro,
Greenberg AZA; Neil Rosen-
baum, Jolson AZA; Amy Zim-
merman, Ruach BBG; Jennifer
Smith and Leslee Berlin, Savage
BBG; Sarit Ashmann and Sara
Schwartz, Shira BBG; and Leslie
Zack, Ahava BBG.
The alternates who will attend
include David Rosen, Jared Roth-
berger and Jason Klein, Kishon
AZA; Jonathan Shaye, Marx
AZA; Shawn Goldman, Funk
AZA; Adam Kresch and Evan

Conversion
Course Set

The Rabbi Max Weine Institute
for Judaism will begin its fall se-
mester 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesday,
Sept. 2, at Congregation Beth
Shalom, sponsored by the Con-
servative Rabbis of Metropolitan
Detroit. Basic Hebrew is includ-
ed, along with a Shabbat dinner,
at which participants can use the
skills acquired during the course.
Rabbi David A. Nelson teaches
the course, assisted by Alicia Nel-
son.
Registration is required, and
can be arranged by speaking with
any of the Conservative rabbis in
the community. Questions can be

SZ Productions
August Program

The August program of Shaarey
Zedek Productions devotes time
to the work of the Jewish Na-
tional Fund (JNF), with an in-
terview with Edward Rosenthal,
director of the JNF in this region.
Geri Levit, host and producer
of the telecast, also talks with the
president of Na'amat in Israel,
Ele Aloni, who was visiting this
country, discussing Na'amat's
work.

Memorial Event
Is Scheduled

The David-Horodoker Organiza-
tion will host a program to hon-
or the memories of relatives who
perished in the Holocaust, 7:30
p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the
Jewish Community Center/Holo-
caust Memorial Center in West
Bloomfield.
The program will begin in the
Janice Charach Epstein Gallery
with a short program. Kathy
Winston will lead a responsive
reading. Dr. Daniel Schechter,
Allen Zemmol and Isher
Mishalov of Israel will participate
in the program.
The evening will continue at
the Holocaust Memorial Center
with a tour of the facility and
Yizkor prayers, led by Asher
Tilchin. A program book, listing
the names of those who perished,
will be presented to attendees.
The event will conclude with re-
freshments.

AJE Plans
Workshops

All Jewish educators are invited
to the Agency for Jewish Educa-
tion's NIRIM Taste of Honey
Back-to-School Workshops, an
annual program which provides
professional enrichment oppor-
tunities to help Jewish educators
prepare for the beginning of the
school year and make learning
"sweet" for students throughout
the year. Taste of Honey will be
held 8:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday,
Aug. 24, at the Agency for Jew-
ish Education, 21550 W. 12 Mile
Rd. in Southfield.
Following the workshops, the
AJE Educational Resource Cen-
ter will be open for touring and
for making a 5758 calendar to
decorate the classroom.

Wednesday, Aug. 20. To pre-reg-
