partments. The tour includes a
look at the gun range, fire
trucks and fire-fighting appara-
tus (Berkley is a public-safety
department) and if there are
no prisoners, the jail cell. Con-
tact your local police station if
this idea interests you.
Cr Do you know that some
firemen live at the fire station
while on call? If you visit for a
free tour you will see their liv-
ing quarters and learn that
they prepare meals for them-
selves in their modem
kitchens. You can see the in-
side of the fire truck, hear the
sirens and walk inside the
EMS vehicles. Call your local
fire-station to inquire about
public tours.
* Your local nature center
may offer various programs, ei-
ther on a drop-in or sign-up ba-
sis, as well as maps for
self-guided hikes. The Troy
Outdoor Education Center of-
fers a variety of one-time class-
es with themes such as Nature
Escape (for children ages 4-8)
and Insect Eaters of the Night
for older children (ages 6-

relaxing and educational stroll
through the interpretive
gallery to look at the reptiles
and amphibians on display, or
you can walk the grounds and
get a glimpse of nature.
fit TCI Cable of Oakland
County offers free video pro-
duction classes for residents of
Lake Orion, Clarkston and
Royal Oak. Older children can
attend classes with adults and
learn about cameras, editing,
sound and lights. At the end of
the series, all participants will
have completed an actual
video production. Watch your

numbers and/or class informa-
tion.

Room, in Rochester, offers pool
tables, ping pong, floor hockey,

They also feature Little Tykes
