Avadenka Art
At JTS Gala
Detroit artist Lynne Avadenka
will be acknowledged for her spe-
cial contribution to Jewish art at
the Jewish Theological Seminary
Gala scheduled for Monday,
June 23, at Shaarey Zedek. This
past year, JTS chose Ms.
Avadenka to create an original
piece, presented to Mr. William
Davidson, at the dedication of
the William Davidson Graduate
School of Jewish Education. The
work was selected for the Detroit
JTS Gala invitation.
In January 1998, Ms. Avaden-
ka will mount an exhibition of
her work based on the Hebrew
alphabet at the Library of the
Jewish Theological Seminary in
New York. As a preview, a se-
lection of Ms. Avadenka's mixed
media, inspired by Judaic
themes, will be featured at the
JTS Gala.
Ms. Avadenka's work is part
of the permanent collection of the
Library of Congress, the Israel
Museum, the New York Public
Library, the Skirball Museum in
Los Angeles, the Museum of
Contemporary Art in Chicago,
the Library of the Jewish Theo-
logical Seminary and in private
collections.
Paula Glazier and David
Schostak are gala co-chairs. For
reservations for the June 23 gala
call the JTS office, (248) 258-
0055.
