imons Michelson Zieve may
be an older local agency, but
it is among the most up-to-
date when it comes to the
Internet.
"Almost all of our clients are on
the Web, and we put them on
there," said SMZ chairman Mort
Zieve.
"I don't think it (the Internet)
is important now, but I think it
will grow. I think you want to be
in there so that you are repre-
sented right at the beginning ...
But Mr. Zieve doesn't think the
big changes in his. industry are
technological. "Clients are de-
manding a lot more from agencies
than they ever did before, and I
think it is appropriate. In terms
of marketing, you have to become
a real marketing partner of the
client."
He believes there is more to be-
ing an effective agency than just
making commercials. "It is to the
client's benefit to bring the agency
in right at the beginning and
make them a strategic partner, a
marketing partner, in every as-
pect of their business."
The agency was founded by
Leonard Simons and Larry
Michelson in 1929. Mr. Michel-
son died earlier this year, and
Mr. Simons died in November
1995. They were honored by
Wayne State University with the
establishment of the Simons
Michelson professorship in ad-
vertising.
