"Almost all of our clients are on the Web, and we put them on there," said SMZ chairman Mort Zieve. "I don't think it (the Internet) is important now, but I think it will grow. I think you want to be in there so that you are repre- sented right at the beginning ... But Mr. Zieve doesn't think the big changes in his. industry are technological. "Clients are de- manding a lot more from agencies than they ever did before, and I think it is appropriate. In terms of marketing, you have to become a real marketing partner of the client." He believes there is more to be- ing an effective agency than just making commercials. "It is to the client's benefit to bring the agency in right at the beginning and make them a strategic partner, a marketing partner, in every as- pect of their business." The agency was founded by Leonard Simons and Larry Michelson in 1929. Mr. Michel- son died earlier this year, and Mr. Simons died in November 1995. They were honored by Wayne State University with the establishment of the Simons Michelson professorship in ad- vertising. SIMONS MICHELSON page 108 Risa Beth Heller Jesse A.
