chicken with its skin, remove
the skin before eating. Ms.
Roth suggests seasoning the
poultry under the skin so you
don't lose the flavor when you
remove the skin.

If you need to use salt, add

Bras Linked
To Breast Cancer

Could the underwire bras many
women wear daily cause cancer?
The controversy has been raging
since 1991, when a Harvard re-
searcher claimed there was a link
between wearing bras and breast
cancer. The results of the Bra and
Breast Cancer Study were pub-
lished in the 1995 book "Dressed
to Kill: The Link Between Breast
Cancer and Bras" (Avery).
Now researchers Sydney Ross
Singer and Soma Grismaijer say
they have new research from Fiji
adding to the bra-breast cancer
connection. In Fiji, breast cancer
levels have been steadily rising
since the end of World War II,
which coincides with the intro-
duction of the brassiere to Fijian
women.
About half of Fijian women
wear modern dress, while half
wear traditional dress, which
doesn't include bras. The bra-
wearing women, who often share
the same living conditions, diet
and genetic background as their
braless sisters, are far more like-
ly to develop breast cancer, say
Singer and Grismaijer.
The Fijian government has
launched a national campaign on
television, radio and in newspa-
pers urging women to abandon
the bra.
Supporters of the theory say
bras constrict the breasts, trap-
ping toxins that can lead to can-
cer. ❑
