Adat Shalom
Marks Purim
Adat Shalom Synagogue will
mark Purim with events begin-
ning Saturday, March 22,
through Saturday evening,
March 29.
The congregation is invited to
Adat Shalom's traditional
megillah reading, beginning at
7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22.
Synagogue teens will lead the
readings. There will be a costume
parade and groggers and haman-
tashen.
The megillah will be read again
at 8 a.m. on Sunday, March 23.
At 9:30 a.m. families will take
part in a mini-megillah morning
sponsored by the youth and edu-
cation department. There will be
excerpts from the megillah and a
Purim Spiel presentation by Pup-
petArt.
The Adat Shalom Sisterhood
will share the spirit of Purim with
fellow Jews from Jewish Voca-
tional Service and Kadima at its
annual Sonia Knopper Purim
Outreach Luncheon 11:30 a.m.
Tuesday, March 25. Nursery
school children will present a mu-
sical program, and the Hillel Day
School eighth-grade class will
help serve. Each guest will receive
a shalach manot bag of gifts.
This year's Adat Shalom Youth
Department Purim Carnival will
run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 23. "Mordechai's
Marvelous Magical Museum" will
feature games, prizes and food.
Admission is free. Tickets are 25
cents each. "Haman's Hide-a-
Way" will offer youngsters 2 1/2
to 5 years a Jump Ball and games
to play, with prizes for everyone
for $5 per child. A video arcade
with slot-car racing and air hock-
ey is on tap for youth in grades
5 and above for $5 per child.
Teen-agers participating in
this year's megillah readings in-
clude Marc Miller, Harrison
Magy, Miriam Lieberman, Gabe
Rubin, Jeremy Phillips, Jason
Miller, Aaron Goodman, Jacob
Miller, Sarina Fogel and Eve
Posen.
The synagogue's nursery
school will create "Purim Magic"
with parades, parties, mini-
megillah readings with Cantor
Howard Glantz and entertain-
ment by PuppetArt on March 17
and 18. Families of pre-school
children are also invited to a cre-
ative Purim service and story
hour at 10:30 a.m. on Shabbat
morning, March 22.
Adat Shalom's Purim festivi-
ties will be capped off by Purim
Party Plus, a gala dinner with
music and dancing beginning at
8 p.m. on Saturday, March 29. A
$250 ticket admits two to the
March 29 party and provides one
ticket in the Purim drawing.
