Advocacy Day
Set For Lansing
Metro Detroit area activists will
join members of 13 Michigan
communities at a statewide Jew-
ish Advocacy Day 9:30 a.m.-3
p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the
Lansing Center.
The event, sponsored by the
Michigan Jewish Conference, will
feature meetings with leaders of
the Michigan House and Michi-
gan Senate as well as visits to the
offices of Detroit area legislators.
Marva Hammons, director of
the Family Independence
Agency, and Kathleen Straus,
chair of the State Board of Edu-
cation, will speak during the pro-
gram.
There is a $10 registration fee
which includes lunch at the Lans-
ing Center. A car pool is being or-
ganized for local participants.

Elections Set
A slate of officers and candidates
to fill board of directors seats was
announced at the Jewish Com-
munity Council's presidents
meeting. The election will be held
at the annual meeting on May 22.
Howard I. Wallach has been
nominated as president of the
Council. Vice presidential candi-
dates are Robert Brown, Elaine
Driker and Kathleen Straus. Bet-
sy Winkelman is nominated as
secretary, and Gary Torgow as
treasurer.
Slated to fill three-year terms
on the board of directors are Nan-
cy Welber Barr, Dan Cherrin,
Linda Finkel, Ethan Gilan,
Richard Nodel, Bert Schreiber,
Michael Traison, David Weiss
and Ann Zousmer. Nominee for
a two-year term is Debbie Levin;
one-year term nominee is Jerry
Goldberg.
Additional nominations for any
elective office may be made by pe-
tition signed by at least five qual-
ified delegates. Only one nominee
may be named in each petition.
Petitions must be delivered to the
Council office by April 4.
