Those Funny
Israelis
Did you hear the joke about the
Texan in Gaza? If not, you
might want to check out Is-
raelisms, a new Web site that
bills itself as "Israel's one and
only humor `zine."
"Israelisms: The Lighter Side
of an Intense Country" is a rela-
tively new Internet venture —
rough around the edges, not ex-
actly encyclopedic, but a tanta-
lizing glimpse of the snide, snap-
pish Israeli sense of humor.
The opening screen offers sev-
eral easy-to-follow choices, in-
cluding a page of jokes sent in by
visitors and a photo gallery.
There's also a section labeled
"Charley's Notebook." A recent
edition: the humorous views of
an Israeli born in America who
wonders, if Israel is a Far East-
ern nation, "Why can't I get a de-
cent egg roll anywhere?"
Or you can click on CNN for a
heavy-handed parody of a CNN
newscast on the Middle East.
There's also a form for sub-
mitting your own jokes or mak-
ing comments and suggestions.
Check it out at: http://is-
raelisms.simplenet. comma
