MAKING AN INTERCEPTION

As children grow and mature, it
may become obvious that their teeth
are not developing into normal posi-
tioning relationships. Dentists who
are aware of the potential for maloc-
clusion in their young patients may
then refer to the orthodontist for in-
terceptive procedures. This type of mi-
nor orthodontic treatment performed
during an early developmental time
in a child's life can often prevent ma-
jor problems from occuring later on.
If you suspect a problem develop-
ing in your child's mouth, you can set
up an appointment with an ortho-
dontist for an evaluation. Thus the
old saying that "an ounce of preven-
tion is worth a pound of cure" applies
as much to orthodontics as to most
other things in life.

Because the results of orthodontic
care are often enhanced by early treat-
ment, the American Association of
Orthodontists recommends a first
visit to an orthodontist by age sev-
en. A visit by age seven allows the
orthodontist to monitor growth and
select the best age for treatment. To
schedule a consultation, call our office
at 360-7700 or see us at 8362 Rich-
ardson in Commerce Twp./West
Bloomfield. Evening and Saturday
hours are available.

P.S. Orthodontic treatment can
play a significant role in giving a
positive boost to young patients' self-
esteem during preadolescent years.
