The Jewish Genealogical Society
of Michigan will hold its next
meeting 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23,
at Temple Beth El. Speaker
Phillip Alloy will present "In the
Footsteps of Our Ancestors: A
Journey to the Roots." Mr. Alloy
recently traveled through newly
independent countries of Russia,
Ukraine, Belarus and Moldava in
search of his family's beginnings.
The meeting is free to members
ofJGS of Michigan. The cost for

6. The factory will offer public
tours during the afternoon hours
on Sunday, April 6, and Sunday,
April 13. (The factory is closed on
Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.)
The Matzah Factory will offer
extended hours on Monday and
Wednesday. Participants will re-
ceive a baker's hat and bake their
own matzah. Admission is $2.50
per child. There is no charge for
accompanying adults.

Matzah Factory
Returns

The Cohn-Haddow Center for Ju-
daic Studies at Wayne State Uni-
versity will present two lectures
on American Jewish popular cul-
ture by Dr. Jenna Weissman
Joselit.
The first, titled "Americaniza-
tion Begins at the Foot: History,
Feminism and Fashion," will take
place 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at
the Detroit Historical Museum,
5401 Woodward Avenue at Kir-
by. The lecture will be preceded
by a tour at 2 p.m. of the exhibit
Becoming American Women, to be
led by Judith Levin Cantor, guest
curator. There is a $3 charge for
the tour to be paid at the door.
The second lecture will be an il-
lustrated presentation titled "Sur-
viving Freedom: American Jews
Confront Modernity," and will be
held 3 p.m. Monday, March 3, in
Room I, McGregor Memorial Con-
ference Center, on the Wayne
campus.
Both lectures are co-sponsored
by the Michigan Jewish Histori-
cal Society. Reservations are nec-
essary for both lectures. Call the
