four entrees (5-ounce center cut

Delmonico, a 9-ounce center cut
top sirloin, $8.95; Annie Thomas'
home-style ribs, $9.95; whitefish
broiled, Cajun style, blackened
or pan fried, $7.95)
Everything on the menu at
Matt Brady's Tavern in Ferndale
is served at lunch, dinner and af-
ter hours to 2 a.m., along with
daily specials.
Matt is seeing many old faces
from Seven Mile Road with doc-
tors, lawyers and other busi-
nessmen living in nearby
Sherwood Forest, Palmer Woods,
etc.
Those who frequented his for-
mer spot on Southfield in Bev-
erly Hills have followed Matt to
his new Ferndale locale.
Many people still remember
when Matt's dad, Jim Brady,
and Kenneth Schwartz, North-
land Playhouse producer in the
late '50s and early '60s, founded
the Irish-Israeli charities to help
needy peOple.
The street signs that used to
deck out Seven Mile and Green-
field ... plus Fifth Avenue, Bow-
ery and other New York
memories will be back, Matt
says, but with all Detroit street
names.
When Matt took over the for-
mer Bootlegger's, he almost com-
pletely gutted the place ... Matt

could do this because he was now
his own landlord, buying the
free-standing building in July ,..
collapsed roof and all.
It had been closed a couple of
years ... and when Matt's re-
modelers took away a disco mir-
ror, they found a beautiful .
fireplace.
The old Bootlegger's was an
all-pink disco joint with no win-
dows ... Today, Matt Brady's
Tavern in Ferndale has seven
windows, four facing Nine Mile,
and parking is on both sides of
the building.
Back on Seven Mile Road, Jim
Brady bought his meat from
Thompson and Cain, which sold
out to Chicago Beef 10 years ago
... 42 years later, Matt still buys
his meat from Chicago Beef
salesman Tommy Thompson III,
grandson of the meat company
founder.
A picture of Jim Brady, taken
by the late, great Free Press pho-
tographer Tony Spina in 1961,
•is above the fireplace at Matt
Brady's Tavern in Ferndale.
His sons, Tom at Diamond
Jim Brady's in Novi ... and Matt

ried his name well ... and with
much pride.

THERE WILL be dancing
every Thursday evening, begin-
ning Feb. 27, in Cafe Cortina's
Garden Room, 10 Mile Road just
east of Orchard Lake Road.
Plenty of dancing at Cafe
Cortina's recent Valentine's din-
ner in the regular series of theme
evenings ... and even owner with
son Adrian, Rina Tonon, danced
although hobbling about on
crutches after breaking her foot
in the pool while recently vaca-
tioning in Cancun, Mexico.
It was almost like being in
Italy, where so many parts like
Palermo, etc., have music every
night ... Excellent courses pre-
pared by executive chef Vincen-
zo Bassonetti were on beautiful
plates brought from Italy by
Rina ... and guests helped in the
merriment, singing with the
three-piece band.
Guest George Zeff was the
evening's hit, singing in four
languages as he took folks on a
journey to Italy, France, Spain
and Israel ... George livens up
festivities when he sings at af-
fairs.. •
CONGRATS ... to Harold and
Sylvia Flusty on their 70th an-
niversary ... to Vic and Mayme
Lawson ... on their 62nd an-
niversary.
INDOOR INVITATIONAL
Golf Tournament at Mac & Ray's
has been rescheduled for Feb. 25.
