and for 50 years, Herbert Kaufman
has upheld the standard of service
to the community expected of THE
GERTRUDE ADLER, 86, of
Detroit, died Feb. 4.
Mrs. Adler is survived by a
sister-in-law, Doris Bamberger
of Washington, D.C.; a niece,
Jeannette Webber of Washing-
ton, D.C. Mrs. Adler is the
beloved wife of the late Isidor
Adler.
Interment at Adat Shalom

SANFORD "SANDY" BECK,
58, of Southfield, died Feb. 8.
An industrial engineer, Mr.
Beck is survived by his son,
Larry Beck and fiance Kimber-
ly Jones of Southfield; daugh-
ter, Suzy of Chicago; father,
Joseph of Southfield. Mr. Beck
was the beloved father of the
late Laurie Beck; the son of the
late Anne Beck; the brother of
the late Sheldon Beck.

LILY BELINSKY, 93, of San
Diego, formerly of Southfield,
died Feb. 10. A Seacher in the
Detroit Public Schools for 25
years, Mrs. Belinsky was also a
member of Hadassah, B'nai
David Sisterhood, ORT and the
Women's Variety Club.
Mrs. Belinsky is survived by
her husband, Irving; stepchil-
dren, Joan and Edward Pollak

LAWRENCE A.
FLEISCHMAN, 71, former
Detroiter of Manhattan, N.Y.,
died Jan. 31. Mr. Fleischman
worked in the family-owned
Arthur Fleischman Carpet
Company. He played a key role
in the Detroit Institute of Arts.
In 1956 he was invited to be
a trustee of the Founders Soci-
ety of the DIA and was named
benefactor of the museum the
following year. In 1962, he was
appointed by the mayor to be
president of the Arts Commis-
sion. His tenure saw many in-
novative programs introduced
at the institute.
In addition to the DIA, the
Fleischman were major sup-
porters of the British Museum
as well as the Metropolitan Mu-
seum of Art in New York. They
also donated a large portion of
their antiquities collection to
the J. Paul Getty Museum in
Malibu, Calif.
