oing to Surf City, gonna
have some fun, bubbie
No, it's not exactly the
way Jan and Dean did it;
but it might make a suitable
audio background for a new site
on the World Wide Web devot-
ed to the sport of surfing, Israeli-
style.
The home page of the Israel
Surfing Association opens with
a cute, animated graphic of a fig-
ure surfing under some flapping
seagulls, a picture of the Israeli
national team and a list of the
association's earnest-sounding
goals: promoting surfing and
bodyboarding in Israel, running
contests in Israel and conduct-
ing surfing schools.
Oh yes, you can scan the Is-
raeli team's scores in the 1996
World Surfing Games (Oded
Fridland came in seventh in the
"kneeboard," whatever that is)
and explore links to other surf
clubs around the world, includ-
ing the improbably named
Swedish Surfing Association, a
truly chilling concept.

German Attorney
Gives Talk

Jan. 22, in Room 700C of the De-
troit City/County Building. The
topic, led by Rabbi Herschel Fin-
man, will be "Tikun OlamiTikun
Nefesh - Buzz Words of the
Nineties." Kosher lunch is $10.
For information and reserva-
tions, call Rabbi Finman, (810) _
542-5087.

And here's one more proof
that Israelis are catching up to
Californians in the realm of dan-
gerous but trendy sports. The Is-
rael Inline Skating Site offers all
the information you inline
skaters need to whiz through the
Jewish state, including good
places to skate, Israeli stores
that cater to the wheeled won-
ders, information on Israeli roller
hockey and pictures of the sport.
There's one glaring omission:
the site doesn't list medical prac-
titioners specializing in skate-
board injuries. But there is an
amazingly long list of links to
other skating Web sites around
the world.
A warning on this one: the site
doesn't always display properly,
and you may need to fiddle with
your Web browser's color scheme
to get things looking right. But
if you're a diehard blader, you
won't let a little configuration
problem stand in your way, will
you?
