Don Cohen, director of the
Michigan Regional Office of the
Anti-Defamation League (ADL),
will be the guest speaker at a
dinner meeting of the Temple
Beth El Sisterhood, 6 p.m. Mon-
day, Jan. 27, at the temple. He
will address the topic "Transi-
tion: Combating Hate In Chang-
ing Times."
Mr. Cohen formerly worked
for U.S. Sen. Don Riegle, the
United Jewish Appeal Univer-
sity Programs Department and
the Jewish Federation of San
Antonio. Most recently, he
served for almost 10 years es di-
rector of the Jewish Communi-
ty Relations Council of the
Jewish Federation in Dayton,
Ohio.
The dinner and program is
open to the community. There
is a charge. Reservations may
be made prior to Jan. 23 by call-

meeting 11 a.m. on Sunday,
Jan. 26, at the JWV Memorial
Home.
A light breakfast will be
served by the hostesses of the
Bloch-Rose and Shapiro Auxil-
iaries.

Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood
will host a Tournament 7 p.m.
Thursday, Jan. 23, at the tem-
ple. In addition to cash prizes to
the winners, there will be door
prizes awarded during inter-
missions. Refreshments will be
served.

vance and $18 at the door. For

Music Academy
Study Offered
Applications are available for
fellowships to attend the Ul-
pana-Israel Academy of Music
July 6-28 in Michigan's Part-
nership 2000 sister region of Is-
rael, the Central Galilee.
Teens aged 14-18 who have
played a musical instrument or
studied voice for at least four
years are eligible to participate.
The academy is conducted un-
der the auspices of the Israel Je-
unesses Musicales (Young
People's Music Society).
The Israel experience in-
cludes a week of touring and
sightseeing throughout Israel
and two weeks at the academy.
Instruction will be in English.
Students who participate in the
Interlochen-like program will
be housed at the Mossad
Amakim dorm in Central
Galilee. Home hospitality with
their counterparts from the re-
gion and opportunities to so- n'
cialize will be part of the
program. The group will be ac-
companied by staff.
Subsidies from Federation
and the Academy have reduced
the fee to $1,000, airfare in-
cluded. Applicants must submit
a tape demonstrating musical
ability, as well as a resume of
musical experience.
Application deadline is Feb.
1. Candidates who are accepted
into the program will be notified
by April 1.

The Sam and Evelyn Linden
Scholarship Fund provides for
scholarships to be given to wor-
thy young people for an Israeli
experience.

Looks At Services
The January telecast from
Shaarey Zedek Productions is a
discussion by four professionals
about the condition of Jewish
services in the metro area. The
program participants, who
joined host Geri Levit, were Car-
ol Rosenberg, Geri Margolis,
Bob Steinberg and Donna Wein-
berg.
All programs can be seen
multiple times a month accord-
ing to the following schedule.

brary. The programs were
