ewish activists in the capi-

keeping track of Jewish ap-
pointees to the second Clin-
ton administration — even as they
breathlessly await each new an-
nouncement and pass along each
new rumor.
So, for the record, here are the
latest appointments and rumors
of appointments.
Mr. Clinton has nominated
Evelyn S. Lieberman, currently
deputy chief of staff for White
House operations and a former
Capitol Hill staffer, as director of
the Voice of America.
"Evelyn has a special talent for
cutting to the chase and getting
to the truth," Mr. Clinton said last
week.

Rabbi Joseph A. Edelheit was
nominated to the panel by Health
and Human Services Secretary
Donna Shalala. Rabbi Edelheit,
currently senior rabbi at Temple
Israel in Minneapolis, served as
the Rabbinic Co-Chair of the Cen-
tral Conference of American Rab-

Congregation's Joint Committee
on HIV/AIDS.
One announcement that hasn't
been made: the fate of Ann Lewis,
the longtime Jewish activist who
was a primary architect of Mr.
Clinton's successful re-election ef-
fort.
Ms. Lewis, according to ad-
ministration insiders, is being con-
sidered for several positions,
including deputy chief of staff and
chief of staff to first lady Hillary
Rodham Clinton.
