Have You had Big Daddy's Tommy Salad Yet?
Or Our Fabulous Lamb Chops?

Welcome to the best Greek food this

on Orchard Lake Road and 12
Mile. We like them sauteed in-
stead of deep fried and they're
available either way.
"Lunch at Ram's Horn on Or-
chard Lake Road, between 12 and
13 Mile, always includes a tuna-
tizer — tuna fish not saturated
with salad dressing on pita bread.
"At Stage & Co. on Orchard
Lake Road in West Bloomfield,
we can't resist the noodle kugel,
which is better than the meals
created in many home kitchens.
Diets go down the drain, but the
bobka at Stage is sinfully deli-
cious."
FOR THE FIRST time in its
20 years of existence, Cafe Corti-
na on 10 Mile east of Orchard
Lake Road had a birthday party
... with guests quietly invited to
fete the anniversary.
Rina and son Adrian Tonon
have done a superb job in mak-
ing theirs one of the top Italian
dining-spots around.
Strolling music was by the
D'AngelQ Trio ... Dennis D'Ange-
lo, Ronnie Shandel and Bunker
Garber.
When Cafe Cortina originally
opened in 1976, it had only one
room, seating 105 ... Then anoth-
er was added for 35 more, fol-
lowed by the popular Garden
Room with space to make 95 peo-
ple happy.
Adrian was 4 years old when
Rina and the lath Adriano Tonon
opened Cafe Cortina ... They had
a lazy son ... Adrian didn't wash
dishes until he was 6, standing
on a box to reach the sink.

Diners have a myriad
of fine choices.

JEWELRY DEPT.... Rabbi's
-Saturday Evening Study Group
(Tish) at Temple Israel plays cu-
pid, too ... That's where Noreen
Aberly and Howard Geller met .....
and are now engaged.
IF YOU USED to wrinkle
your nose as a kid at the mention
of tofu, you should taste it now
as prepared at the beautiful
Shangri-La in Orchard Mall on
Orchard Lake Road.
The authentic gourmet Hong
Kong-style Cantonese restaurant
prepares tofu at least 20 different
ways ... every one more delicious
than the other ... and so very
healthy.
Shangri-La and its bevy of au-
thentic gourmet Chinese dishes
is proving to be a major standout
on the local dining scene.
Some of its dishes absolutely
cannot be found anywhere else in
this region.
Try the sweet and sour bread-
ed grouper fish fillet or the five
various styles of lobster delights
among so many fine examples
that truly bring out the word au-
thentic ... You'll be amazed.
THAT BIG YELL you can

hear across the football stadium
is Tommy Peristeris when his
son, Paul, boots a long one or out-
of-bounds inside the 5 yard line
for the University of Michigan
Wolverines football team ... The
co-owner of Big Daddy's Parthe-
non attends every game ... in Ann
Arbor and out-of-town.
HARD TO BELIEVE that it
was in 1962 that Hughes and
Sheila Potiker started their En-
tertainment Passbook at the
kitchen table in Oak Park.
At that time, mostly sporting
and event offers were featured ...
Today, values include almost
every taste, cuisine and dining
style.
Locally, hundreds of charita-
ble groups use the Entertainment
book as a fund raiser ... Last year,
over $650,000 was raised by these
nonprofit groups on behalf of their
worthy causes in the greater De-
troit area.
Back in 1962, Hughes and
Sheila, who-now live in Califor-
nia, would have had a hearty -
laugh if anyone suggested that
one day they would sell over 27
Million books ... and be published
in over 165 cities in the United
States and Canada.
And having pleasant employ-
ees like Marsha Stratton, regional
director; and Kelly Sheffler, De-
troit sales manager, doesn't hurt
... Not one bit.
A TASTE OF Italy by Marco's
Dining on Grand River in Farm-
ington's Village Commons Cen-
ter was another in an elegant
evening of fine dining, wines and
music ... presented by owner Mar-
co Conte.
He is the restaurant's sole own-
er, now that parents .Ann and
Enzo Conte have retired ... Even
though mother Ann comes in to
help Marco when he is out of
town.
A seven-course dining extrav-
aganza included a tasting of fine
Martin Brothers Vineyard selec-
tions ... and strolling music by
Tony Ballog, violin; and Al Gar-
ber, guitar; who also appear
at Marco's every Wednesday
evening.
It was an excellent dining and
wining experience with an out-
standing menu selection ... And,
of course, delicious bread from a
family recipe of Marco's grand-
parents, Gretano and Santina
Merolla.
VINO DEPT. ... by master
sommelier Madeline Triffon of
Unique Restaurant Corporation
... "It's pure myth that red wine
should breathe in the bottle be-
fore it's poured, and that older
wine needs a lot of air. Fact is that
wine doesn't breathe much
through the little opening in the
bottle.
"Older wines can suffer from
over-breathing, while younger
wines may benefit quite a lot. If
you want to let your wine breathe,
let it breathe in the glass or in a
decanter."
