Have You had Bid Daddy's Tommy Salad Yet?
Or Our Fabulous Lamb Chops?
Welcome to the best Greek food this
and food is sent throughout the
country ... particularly to former
Detroiters and their relatives ...
Trays are taken on privately
owned planes and simply in cars
for people to enjoy while going to
and from this region.
It is like a little party store too,
with milk, coffees, pies, potato
chips, beer, cheeses, candies, cook-
ies, breads, etc.
Those who thought such a
small place as Star Deli could
never do so much business have
changed their tune and as regu-
lar customers now can readily see
why.
Sid and Harry have taken
what others might have thought
to be an impossible dream and
made it into an incredible reali-
ty.
THREE RESTAURANTS
opened and closed and another
never did open ... The history of
the site on Drake, south of Wal-
nut Lake Road, doesn't have too
good a track record.
However, none of the former
spots ... Dimitri's Wildflower,
Panda, Ming Dynasty and Jum-
bo ... had the correct formula ...
All were strictly restaurants
without a draw.
Now comes Parthenon House,
a combination banquet hall and
small attached Parthenon restau-
rant ... both with a Big Daddy's
menu influence and then some.
A combo operation, but parties
are the primary objective, with
events from 50 to 300.
Grand opening of Parthenon
Banquet Hall revealed a capaci-
ty of 250 with dance floor and 300
without the terpsi area.
The restaurant is set to open
July 9, with Barry Rogow and
Andy Stylianou as hosts of both
operations.
Ernie Solomon and his Camp-
bell Soup tie ... Mike George with
10,000 trays per
year from Star.
that gracious smile and welcome
... Lou Grant congratulated on his
70th birthday ... Harry Nelson
with pictures taken of President
Clinton at a local party ... Sonny
and Emily Rogow, Barry and
Rick's parents, so proud.
The springing up of good ban-
quet halls is a very welcomed
sight ... There can never be too
many ... Especially good ones into
which category Parthenon House
seems to fall.
MUCH PARENTAL love and
togetherness went into the recent
25th anniversary party given for
Nate and Irene Light by their
children in the beautiful down-
stairs banquet room of Relish on
W. 12 Mile Road.
So nice as daughters Suzie
Kamm(Blair), Cindy Light and
Terri Cassels and son David
Light beamed with pride that
they were able to show their adu-
lation for this fine couple.
Hot and cold food sectors com-
bined in what turned out to be a
mini-dinner with stations all
around the room ... Pasta and
trimmings, salmon, whitefish,
steak, asparagus rolled in phyl-
lo, and so much more, including
Matt Prentice's specialty of a su-
perb sweet table.
Sheila Landis Trio played for
listening and dancing as about
120 gathered for a good time.
People sat wherever they
wanted and our table filled in a
hurry with folks drinking a cham-
pagne toast to Nate and Irene ...
Delores and Shep Schuldinger,
Sheldon and Corrine Sinai, Stu-
art Sinai and Carol Shaw, Ruby
and Pauline Samson.
Stuart and Carol met 2 1/2
years ago on a cruise ... Ruby and
Pauline were married 58 years in
May.
No dancing for Irene ... not
with broken toes ... and Nate used
the dance-floor mike during the
toast to tell what made his and
her marriage such a success ...
"Two words," he said. "Yes, dear"
... as Irene smilingly rolled her
eyes to the ceiling while mutter-
ing something under her breath.
KEITH FAME, owner/chef
of the former Les Auteurs and
Durango Grill in Royal Oak, has
secret culinary plans for the third
restaurant by the Wisne family
... slated to open some time this
year at the previous site of the
Polo Shop in Birmingham ... The
Wisnes currently own Too Chez
and Tribute.
SHOPPING AROUND for
talent has made Joe Vicari into a
keen-eyed restaurateur.
His dabbles into show biz have
been paying off handsomely.
First it was the Scintas, which
have been playing to sellout au-
diences at his Andiamo Banquet
Center, next to Joe's restaurant
on W. 14 Mile, between Mound
and Van Dyke.
Recently, Sonny Turner, for-
mer lead singer with the Platters
in the '50s and '60s, was the big
hit "discovered" by Joe and
brought here for a standout en-
gagement.
Next comes Danny Marona
and already tickets are going fast
... He sings, plays piano and
shares a lot of huinor with his au-
dience as one of Las Vegas' No. 1
show acts.
Danny's Andiamo engage-
ments will be July 10, 11, 13, 17,
18 and 19.
HE WANTED TO top the
amount raised by Frank Sinatra,
which stood as a Variety record
... And Morry Cohen did just that.
Variety-The Children's Char-
ity named Morry Cohen as its
1996 Humanitarian ... and the re-
cent Ritz-Carlton affair netted
more than any other Variety tent
had done in North American his-
tory. ri
side of Greektown...featuring wonderful Greek Favorites.
