Golf Event To Cite
Baseball Hall Of Famer
Former major leaguer and base-
ball executive Al Rosen will be
awarded the Hank Greenberg
Memorial Achievement Award
in June by the Michigan Jewish
Sports Hall of Fame (MJSHF).
Mr. Rosen will be honored at
the sixth annual Hank Green-
berg Memorial Golf & Tennis In-
vitational on Monday, June 17,
at Tam O'Shanter Country Club
in West Bloomfield.

Al Rosen
Mr. Rosen, a four-time All Star
with the Cleveland Indians and
then president and general man-
ager of the San Francisco Giants,
will be honored for "his devotion
to the game of professional base-
ball, character, perseverance and
commitment to mankind and the
community."
He was named the American
League's most valuable player in
1953 after hitting .336 and lead-
ing the league in home runs,
RBIs, runs, total bases and slug-
ging percentage. He twice led the
American League in home runs
and RBIs.
Funds raised from the June
event support the Hank Green-
berg Memorial Cancer Fund and
other oncology programs at Sinai
Hospital.
The invitational will also fea-
ture the Comerica Securities
Pro/Celebrity Skins game with
Senior PGA tour star Larry
Laoretti. Sportscaster Dick
Schaap will be master of cere-
monies and invitational co-chair-
men are Eric Krause and Steven
Simons.

field will host the southeast
Michigan tennis qualifying tour-
nament for the junior national
championships.
The district tournament will
be held May 24-27 and June 1-
2 for girls' singles categories 18,
