WERE FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE

GERALD N. PICKMAN, 64,
former Detroiter of Tacoma,
Wash., died March 26. Mr.
Pickman attended Wayne
State University and worked
as business manager for the
student publication. Following
his enlistment in the Air Force,
where he supplemented mili-
tary chores by doing copy writ-
ing for the Darcy Advertising
Agency, he attended the Uni-
veristy College at Washington
University in St. Louis; he re-
ceived a bachelor of science and
a master's of business adminis-
tration from that institution.
At age 28 he was promoted
to vice president of marketing
research for the Kudner Adver-
tising Agency in New York. He
later joined Simulmatics Cor-
poration as senior vice presi-
dent and general manager.
This was followed by a stint as
vice president with Uncle Ben's
Rice.
In the 1970s, Mr. Pickman
was group vice president at
Gulf and Western Industries.
He then took on an assignment
as vice president and general
manager/ chief operating offi-
cer for the Dixie Consumer
Products Division of American
Can Company in Greenwich,
Conn. He later joined the Coca
Cola bottling company of New
York as president of the Soft
Drink Division. In his career,
he also served as chairman of
the board of the Cott Corpora-
tion in New Haven, and presi-
dent and chief operating officer
of Core-Mark International, a
Canadian holding company.
Mr. Pickman is survived by
his wife of almost 40 years,
Bernadine; daughter Lindsey;
son and daughter-in-law, Brett
and Marcela. Arrangements by
Green Funeral Home in Bel-
lvue, Wash.

BERNARD RYBACK, 65,
former Detroiter of Monsey,
N.Y., died April 2. He was a
graduate of Chaim Berlin
Yeshivah in Brooklyn. Mr. Ry-
back, an insurance salesman,
was a many time member of
the Million Dollar Round
Table in New York City.
He is survived by his wife,
Lakie; daughter and son-in-
law, Malkie and Stanley Aker-
man of Brooklyn; sons and
daughters-in-law, Rabbi
Yossie and Devorah of Balti-
more, Moishe and Janice of
Cedarhurst, N.Y., Rabbi Shea
and Gitty of Lakewood, N.J.;
15 grandchildren; sister and
brother-in-law, Esther and
Max Applebaum; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Gordon and
Molly, Dr. Ralph and Susan of
Baltimore.

BERTHA SCHWARTZ, 88, of
Boynton Beach, Fla. died April
4. Mrs. Schwartz was the
beloved wife of the late Max
Schwartz. She is survived by
her son and daughter-in-law,
Roy and Marylinn Cohen of
Boynton Beach, Fla.; grand-
children, Dana and Stacey Co-
hen.
Interment at Beth El Memo-
rial Park. Contributions may
be made to Alzheimers Associ-
ation, 17220 West 12 Mile
Road, Suite 100, Southfield,
MI 48076. Arrangements by
the Ira Kaufman Chapel.

WILLIAM J. SOLOMON, 74,

of Farmington Hills, died April
3. Mr. Solomon was sales rep-
resentative for 3 M. He was
also a past president of
Mezrichter Club and a past
member of B'nai
Mr. Solomon was the dear
brother of the late Thelma
Siman and the late Sylvia
Taitelbaum. He is survived by
his wife, Lillian; daughter and
son-in-law, Barbaa and Ed-
ward Cherkinsky of Farming-
ton Hills; son and daughter-in-
law, Steven and Deborah
Solomon of King-wood, Texas;
grandchildren, Jason and Todd
Cherkinsky, Daniel and
Tracey Solomon.
Interment at Oakview
Cemetery. Contributions may
be made to a charity of one's
choice. Arrangements by the
Ira Kaufman Chapel.

JACK STERNTHAL, 73, of
Wixom, died April 8. Mr.
Sternthal was the belovdd hus-
band of the late Ruth. Mr.
Sternthal is survived by his
sons and daughters-in-law,
Sheppard and Marcia McNitt
Sternthal of Bloomfield Town-
ship, Scott and Shelly of Royal
Oak; daughters and sons-in-
law, Adrienne and Jim Black-
burn of Troy, Marie and Barrie
Rudner of Wixom, Pamela and
