Yom HaZikaron
Special Project

A joint audio-visual project by
Detroit and Israeli youth about
battles for Jerusalem will be
presented at the Yom
HaZikaron —Israel Remem-
brance Day — observance 7
p.m. April 22, at the Maple-
Drake Jewish Community
Center. Yom HaZikaron memo-
rializes nearly 18,000 Israelis
who fell in defense of the Jew-
ish state.
Seven Detroit students par-
ticipating in the Jewish Feder-
ation-sponsored Project
Discovery in Israel will join
peers from Jerusalem's Boyer
High School to create the pro-
ject. Two students from the high
school will be in Detroit to par-
ticipate in the program and
spend the week visiting schools
A flag lowering in memory of
the fallen and "order of the day"
will be rendered by an officer of
the Israel Defense Forces. In Is-
rael, an order of the day is giv-
en to troops in case of an
emergency or on a special occa-
sion.
Local youth groups will par-
ticipate in a candle-lighting cer-
emony. The program also will
feature the reciting of Yizkor
and Kaddish and appropriate
songs.
Marta Rosenthal and Han-
nan Lis are chairing the obser-
vance. Sponsoring organizations
include the Michigan/Israel
Connection, a program of the
Jewish Federation of Metropol-
itan Detroit; the Friends of the
Israel Defense Forces; the Jew-
ish Community Center; and The
Jewish News.

Story Time
At Shir Shalom

Temple Shir Shalom will host a
weekly story hour at 10 a.m.
Tuesday, April 2, 16, 23 and 30.
Each session will be led by sto-
ryteller Debbie Keil Landau.
Stories will be brought to life
through music and art.
The cost is $3 per child. Mem-
bers and non-members are wel-
come.
