Labor Zionists
Host Speakers

Dr. David Ellenson will be the
scholar in residence at Temple
Israel on March 15 and 16, with
the theme "Masters of Modern
Jewish Thought: Exploring the
Teachings of Heschel, Buber and
Kaplan." Co-sponsored by the
Midrasha Center for Adult Jew-
ish Learning, this program is
made possible by the Dr. Robert
B. Goldberg and Professor Ruth
L. Goldberg Memorial Fund of
Temple Israel.
In addition to being featured
at Teachers' Sabbath services on
Friday, March 15, at 8 p.m., Dr.
Ellenson will speak at the
Rebbe's Tisch on Saturday
morning, March 16, at 9:30 a.m.
and at a wine and cheese recep-
tion at 5:30 p.m. that day.
Dr. Ellenson is the Grancell
Professor of Jewish Religious
Thought at Hebrew Union Col-
lege—Jewish Institute of Religion
in Los Angeles. He is also direc-
tor of Judaic studies at the Uni-
versity of Southern California.
The lectures are open to the com-
munity at no charge.

As part of the year-long cele-
bration of 60 years of Habonim
in North America and the 90th
anniversary of the Labor Zion-
ist Movement in the TJnited
States, the Detroit Labor Zion-
ist Community will hold special
program featuring Saadia and
Helen Gelb on Sunday, March
17, 7 p.m. at the Labor Zionist
Institute, Crowne Pointe build-
ing, Oak Park.
Saadia and Helen Gelb were
founders of Habonim Labor
Zionist Youth Movement and
made Aliyah from Minneapolis,
in 1947 where they became
members of Kibbutz Kfar Blum.
Rabbi Gelb, with a Ph.D. in
Hebrew literature, is a political
commentator whose views have
appeared in the Hebrew and
English press. He has worked
on the kibbutz as a fisherman,
tractor driver, youth leader, gen-
eral secretary, kibbutz treasur-
er, and hotel manager.
Helen Gelb has worked on
Kibbutz Kfar Blum as an ele-
mentary and junior high school
teacher as well as working with
children with special needs.
They will speak on "Kibbutz:
Past, Present and Future."
This event is sponsored by
Habonim Dror Chay Commis-
sion and Labor Zionist Alliance
Rabin Branch. The program is
free and open to the public. Re-
freshments will be served.
