hortly after John Engler
took office, the Jewish
community began to urge
the governor to visit Israel
to foster ties between Michigan
and the Jewish state.
Now, after years of trying to
woo the governor into incorpo-
rating a trip into his schedule,
plans for an Israel visit are im-
minent.
Although a date has not been
selected, a spokesperson from
the governor's office said Gov.
Engler is definitely planning a
visit.
"At the advice of (Jewish Re-
publican activist) Max Fisher,
we will not pick a date until af-
ter the Israeli election," said Gov. John Engler: Israel-bound.

Sunday Rally Mourns
Victims Of Terrorism

ALAN HITSKY ASSOCIATE EDITOR

T

he La'Asot organization
has scheduled a 45-
minute rally Sunday
morning to mourn the vic-
tims of the recent terrorist at-
tacks in Israel.
Citing a lack of opportunities,
both locally and nationally, for
American Jews to show their
grief, the local group has sched-
uled three speakers at the 10:30
a.m. rally at Adat Shalom Syn-
agogue.
La'Asot officers Asher Tilchin
and Berl Falbaum will speak,

along with Adat Shalom's
Rabbi Efry Spectre, who re-
turned from Israel on Wednes-
day.
"We want to express our grief
for the victims and their fami-
lies," Mr. Falbaum said, "and
we want to show our uncom-
promising support for Israel.
This is not a political rally for
any of the Israeli political par-
ties."
Rabbi Spectre will discuss the
mood of Israelis in the wake of
the terrorist attacks. ❑
