Envoy's has a long
pedigree.

Mickey has been spending so
much time in Chicago ... He has
obtained the great Takashi Yag-
ihashi to be executive chef at Trib-
ute ... The immensely talented
Takashi, with a superstar status,
is currently at Ambria Restau-
rant, one of Chicago's top three
dining spots, which he will leave
Feb. 10 for the coveted Tribute
post.
Tribute will have very fine
modern contemporary cuisine
with foods of the world influenc-
ing the dining preparations ...
Takashi will fit in well with this
theme, having worked with
French masters, trained in
Japan, plied his trade in France
and in fine restaurants in the
United States.
As example is Takashi's con-
temporary French cuisine (this is
just a part of his masterful world-
class cooking ability) in which he
uses no heavy creams or rich but-
ter for sauces ... His mind-bog-
gling innovative styles also take
in a big emphasis on light foods.
CONGRATS ... to Emily Ro-

gow, Sonny's frau ... on her 60th
birthday ... celebrated with a sur-
prise party with about 170 in a
Las Vegas Night atmosphere of
blackjack, craps and roulette ...
given by daughter Audrey and
son-in-law Dave Rose; and sons
Rick and daughter-in-law Ricki
Rogow, and Barry and daughter-
in-law Jody Rogow ... To Kathy
Hack ... on her 30th birthday ...
To Ilene and Dick Carson ... on
their 40th anniversary.
SALUTE TO SINATRA in
Arriva Rainbow Room, 12 Mile
between Mound and Van Dyke,
is Feb. 16, 17 and 18, featuring
Ronnie Gaylord and Johnny
Trudell's 20-piece orchestra ...
$34.95 includes dinner and show
... Call (810) 573-8100 for reser-
vations.
DON'T KNOW WHERE the
name Julie came from, but it's
Lori Nelson, former Marx Layne
gal, who recently moved to Las
Vegas ... 901 W. Sahara Ave., Las
Vegas, NV 89117, (702) 233-8146
... Maybe having a couple of Julies
now at The Jewish News is on the
mind ... Julie Edgar and Julie
Yolles.

THERE'S MUCH MORE to
a Caesar salad than just pouring
Caesar dressing over lettuce like
so many restaurants do in the
away-from-customers'-eyes
kitchen safety.
Take it from people like James
Moore at Paparazzi in Sugar
Tree, Orchard Lake Road south
of Maple; Bob Kimoto, Kingsley
Hotel & Suites, Woodward at
Long Lake Road; Manuel Chavez,
Ristorante di Modesta, North-
western Highway north of 12
Mile ... and other tableside ex-
perts ... Also from many highly
acclaimed chefs in our region who
do know the difference.
GET WELL WISHES ... to
Maxie Silk.... at Cadillac Nursing
Home, 1533 Cadillac Blvd., De-
troit, MI 48214 ... He'll really ap-
preciate your cards. ❑

... But this is the compact secret
of Envoy Cafe ... proof that a
kitchen doesn't have to be big ...
only as good as its chefs and cooks
... Food is served Monday through
Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and
Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to
11 p.m.
Live music is Wednesday
through Saturday.
Larry's daughter, Jennifer, is
an asked-for smiling and gracious
waitress in the evening ... During
the day, she is a special science
major at Madonna College in
Livonia.
Evening host Jim Prenzlauer
is the kind of gent you like to have
greet you ... with a knowledgeable
warmth.
The neighbors around Sims-
bury Plaza are thrilled ... They
should be, having such a good
restaurant like Envoy Cafe in
their back yard.
IT'S OFFICIAL ... and can
now be told that Chef Peter
Loren, who was originally slated
to open Tribute on 12 Mile, just
west of Orchard Lake Road, has
been promoted to corporate chef
of Epoch Enterprises, owned by
the Wisne family ... He'll oversee
all its operations ... Too-Chez,
Sheraton-Oaks Hotel, and the
new Tribute and Forum restau-
rants scheduled for this year.
And also official is that with
this move, Mickey Bakst, the
masterful maitre d' who'll proba-
bly be general manager too of the
new Tribute, slated to open in late
March, has excitedly achieved a
dining coup that is bringing him
congratulations from around the
country.
It's one of the big reasons why
