pated in the 1993, '94 or '95
Agency for Jewish Education's
Ma'ayan Tefillah Jewish Edu-
cators Retreat are invited to the
first part of a follow-up workshop
series, "Bringing Holiness Into
the Day." The program will be
held on Sunday, Jan. 14, from 2-
7:30 p.m., with a kosher dinner
and Monday, Jan. 15 from 9
a.m.-5 p.m. with a kosher lunch
at Temple Shir Shalom, 3999
Walnut Lake Rd., West Bloom-
field.
This workshop series is a pi-
lot project which will enable Jew-
ish educators to discover ways to
incorporate simple rituals and
tefillot (prayers) into the daily
routines of their classrooms. Par-
ticipants will explore Jewish
ways to mark moments in space
and time relevant to their stu-
dents' lives, involving them in
creating a caring community.
During the Jan. 15 session, par-
ticipants will also commemorate
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by
participating in a community-
wide walk on Orchard Lake Rd.
"Bringing Holiness Into the
Day" will be led by several of the
Ma'ayan Tefillah Teacher's Re-
treat presenters, including Deb-
bie Friedman, singer, songwriter
and educator; Rabbi Stuart Kel-
man, of Congregation Netivot
Shalom in Berkeley, Calif; and
Shawn Locke, director of school
services at the Agency for Jew-
ish Education. Joining them will
be Dr. Sharon Feiman-Nemser,
professor of education at Michi-
gan State University and senior
researcher with the National
Center for Research on Teacher
Learning; and Dr. Elliot K Gins-
burg, associate professor of Jew-
ish Studies and Thought at the
University of Michigan.
The last part of the series will
be held on Sunday, March 10, at
Temple Shir Shalom, at which
time teachers will share de-
scriptions of projects they devel-
op, in pairs or teams, for their
classrooms.
Upon completion of the pro-
gram, participants receive 10
NIRIM Units. Pre-registration
