New Americans
Ceremony Set

As an expression of the religious
freedom gained by Detroit's new
Americans from Soviet Russia,
there will be a public menorah-
lighting ceremony Sunday, Dec.
17, at 5 p.m. at Lincoln Shopping
Center in Oak Park. The pro-
gram is being arranged by
Friends of Refugees of Easter Eu-
rope, a national organization de-
voted to assisting Russian
immigrant families in rediscov-
ering their Jewish heritage.
The program will begin with
State Representative Dave
Gubow kindling a large six-foot
menorah. Participants will hear
the message of Chanukah both
in Russian and English. There
will be live music as well as danc-
ing, and the children of Chaim
Hebrew School will entertain
with Chanukah songs. All chil-
dren will receive Chanukah gift-
packs and traditional latkes will
be available for all. The shopping
center is located on Greenfield,
north of Lincoln Road. The pub-
lic is invited at no charge.

No Pain,
No Gain

In a boom market with many stocks rising 30% or
more, the capital gains tax can be a real pain in
the pocketbook.

If you sell now before the end of the year, the tax
folks will want a third of the profits!

So, why not donate appreciated mutual fund
shares to your favorite cause? A cause that
comforts the aged, educates young people,
rescues families from danger and resettles them
in freedom? In short, how about creating an
endowment fund that will benefit your commu-
nity through the Jewish Federation of Metropoli-
tan Detroit?

This holiday season, choose the perfect Seiko watch for

someone on your list. Lyle promise, they'll never forget it.

You'll feel no pain, you'll avoid tax on the capi-
tal gain, and you'll reap a king-size mitzvah for
your community, your family and yourself.

SEIKO

Someday all watches will be made this way.

For information about donating appreciated
mutual fund shares or stocks, call the Endow-
ment Department of the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, 642-4260, ext. 206.
