The Cultural Commission of
Congregation Beth Achim will
hold a sit-down kiddush on Sat-
urday, Dec. 16. Services will be-
gin at 8:45 a.m. followed by
special kiddush.
The speaker will be Irving
Marshall, senior commander of
Jewish War Veterans of Michi-
gan, who will speak about orgins
and history of the Jewish War
Veterans.
There is no charge.
Temple Emanu-El will offer a
two-week program for parents
and fourth-seventh grade stu-
dent titled "Shalom Bayit: Par-
enting Tips for Maintaining a
Peaceful and Positive House-
hold." Co-sponsored by Jewish
Experiences For Families
(JEFF), the program will explore
creative strategies for healthy
parenting and examine Jewish
parenting sources. Specialists in
the field will make presentations
and answer questions.

for this program, registration is

The Cultural Commission of
Congregation Beth Achim will
sponsor a "Chanukah Chappen-
ing" dinner on Monday, Dec. 18,
at 6 p.m. Families and friends
are invited for dinner, lighting
the menorah, and a musical
evening of songs and Israeli
dancing.
Guests are asked to bring an
unwrapped toy (under $10) to be
donated to Children's Hospital.

Family Shabbat
Congregation B'nai David will
hold its monthly Family Shab-
bat Luncheon following Sabbath
morning services on Dec. 16 at
the synagogue.
A catered luncheon, spon-

in memory of her beloved hus-
band Emil Spilman, will be
served. There is no charge for
the luncheon but reservations
must be made by Tuesday, Dec.

Havdalah Event
At Maple-Drake
The Jewish Community Center
of Metropolitan Detroit will host
the Intergenerational Chanukah
Havdalah at the Maple-Drake
Building on Saturday, Dec. 16,
at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and a Hav-
dalah service will be followed by
a workshop to make a family
Havdalah set.
The cost of the evening in-
cludes dinner and the materials
for the Havdalah set. JCC Mem-
bers are $5 - adults, $3 - children;
non-members are $6 - adults, $4
- children. Reservations must be
received by Wednesday, Dec. 13.

AJE Plans
For Chanukah
The Agency for Jewish Eduction
will host "Hanukah Happening
with Helayne," a children's sto-
rytime for youngsters and their
parents on Sunday, Dec. 17, from
2-3:30 p.m. in the AJE library.
During this community pro-
gram, Helayne Shaw, a winner
of the 1995 Jewish news "My Fa-
vorite Teacher" Award and ear-
ly childhood educator at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek,
will introduce participants to sto-
ries, songs and a puppet show
about Chanukah. Representa-
tives from the AJE's Jewish Ex-
perience For Families and the
library will aid Ms. Shaw in cre-
ating take-home Chanukah
crafts. Refreshments will be
served.
This event is open to the com-
munity and free of charge. To re-
