GS
his older brother. "Here I am, and
when I have grown older, my chil-
dren will be able to take care of
me; but what will happen to my
brother in his old age? Who will
take care of his needs? It isn't fair
to divide the crops equally. He is
going to need more than I." So he
arose and took a load of sheaves
adn brought them to his broth-
ers field and left them there, then
he returned home and went to
sleep in peace.
When morning came, both
brothers were amazed to find
their crops exactly as they had
left them the night before. They
each wondered about it greatly,
but did not speak about the
strange event.
The next night, each repeated
his action. When morning came,
again they were amazed to find
they had the same number of
sheaves that they had the night
before.
But on the third night, when
each brother was carrying a pile
of sheaves to the other and the
full moon was high in the heav-
ens, they met at the top of the hill.
Finally they understood. Over-
come with emotion they each
dropped their sheaves, embraced
each other and cried with tears
of gratitude and happiness. Then
they returned to their tents. They
understood what made a good
brother.
Tradition tells us that God saw
this act of love between the broth-
ers and blessed the place where
they met that night. In the course
of time came Solomon's search
for a piece of ground holy enought
to house the sacred Temple. It
was erected on that every spot
from which peace and love be-
tween brothers were to flow to
the whole world.
Yes, the best way to have a
good brother is to be a good
brother. CI
