Plans Shabbat

Creative Event

The Adat Shalom Men's Club
Shabbat will hold its annual
Men's Club Shabbat on Satur-
day, Dec. 9. Men's Club members
will conduct the Shabbat morn-
ing service.
Men's Club President Jeffrey
Supowit will deliver the sermon.
Men's Club members taking part
in the service are: Larry Wolfe,
Asher Tilchin, Jeffrey Wein-
garten, Stuart Logan, Mikulas
Judikovic, Harvey Nussbaum,
Harvey Olson, Ralph Worooff,
Paul Goldsmith, Donald Rudick,
Michael Weil, Sidney Feldman,
Jeffrey Supowit, Bradley
Wasserman, Jeffrey Tackel and
Marcus Bass.
A kiddush in honor of the men
will follow. Stuart Logan is chair-
ing this year's program.

Jewish educators are invited to
attend a Creativity Night at the
Agency for Jewish Education.
The workshop, "Celebrating
Shabbat: Making a Palace in
Time," is scheduled for Thurs-
day, Dec. 14, 7-9 p.m., with an
optional dinner at 6:15 p.m. Par-
ticipants will explore classical
Jewish sources and contempo-
rary understandings in order to
invigorate personal approaches
to Shabbat. Teachers will also
learn ways to use these insights
to enrich their classrooms.
Hands-on Shabbat projects will
be shared and created.
The workshop will be pre-
sented by Rabbi Stuart Seltzer,
director of the Chizuk Amuno
Religious School in Baltimore.
Rabbi Seltzer has developed and
implemented numerous Jewish
educators programs which have
served as models for communi-
ties throughout North America.
The Creativity Night is part
of the Agency for Jewish Educa-
tion's NIRIM Professional En-
richment Program for Jewish
Education and is open to educa-
tors of all grades. Teachers en-
rolled in NIRIM will receive two
units for participation. Anyone
interested in attending should
sign up with their school direc-
tor. The workshop is free of
charge. There is, however, a min-
imal fee for the optional dinner.

The next Challah Days will be
Friday, Dec. 15, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Ruth Beresh and Karen Goss
will teach everyone how to make
a challah for Shabbat. This class
is open to everyone at the Ap-
plebaum Parenting Center.
Sense of Shabbat is a new pro-
gram for moms and children. Dif-
ferent songs and blessings for
Shabbat will be taught and
Shabbat stories will be told. Par-
ticipants will be able to explore
Jewish books, items of Judaica
for the home and toys for chil-
dren.Drop in on Friday, Dec. 15,
from 10-11 a.m. There is no fee.
Why should your children be
Jewish ? Rabbi David Wolpe will
offer an understanding of the
need for religion and faith on
Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m.

Artist Gallery
Is Opened

On Sunday, Dec. 10, at 1:30 a re-
ception will celebrate the open-
ing of the Mary Stahl Artists
Gallery at the Fleischman Resi-
dence/Blumberg Plaza. Ms.
Michelle Young Sider is the first
of many artists who will display
their work in a rotating exhibit
reflecting different styles of ex-
pression for all to enjoy. In a co-
operative effort Sylvia Nelson,
the curator of the Janice
Charach Museum, will recom-
mend local artists who would like
to display their works.
The public is invited to attend
the grand opening of the Mary
Stall Artists Gallery and to meet
Michelle Young Sider. For in-

Maple-Drake
Festive Events

Grandparents, grandchildren
and their families will spend a
Havdalah together sharing din-
ner, a short services and a work-
shop to make a family Havdalah
kit on Saturday, Dec. 16, at
Maple-Drake, 5:30-7:30 p.m. For

The Jewish Community Cen-
ter of Metropolitan Detroit will
sponsor the Si Israel Memorial
Chanukah Party featuring Sam
Barnett and his orchestra Mon-
day, Dec. 18, at 12:30 p.m. at
Maple-Drake. No charge for JCC
members. The non-member
charge is $3. Call Lorraine Mor-

The Center will present Even-
lyn Orbach discussing the chang-
ing role of the Jewish family as
portrayed in the American the-
ater. Maple-Drake Monday, Dec.
11, at 2 p.m.
The price for the program is
$1.50 for JCC members, and
$2.50 for non-members. JCC
Health Club members are free.
