is something to see, with both booths and

preparation of traditional Jewish dishes,

are available for dining in or carryout.

French Gourmet, 23421 Wood-

one time a great place to go for French
pastries and desserts, this has become
a full-fledged restaurant with under 30
seats. It serves gourmet-style food at res-
onable prices. Owners Marvin Bernstein
and wife/executive chef Lina Bernstein,
also roast their own coffees and have
added new features from 40 French
syrups to an extensive line of teas,
Parisian vinegars, oils, honeys, preserves
and mustards. Although a complete
restaurant now, French Gourmet is still a
classic authentic French pastry shop and
bakery, with excellent special occasion
and wedding cakes. If going for dinner,
take a tip and make a reservation. Re-
member, seating capacity is small.

Dishes include fresh fish, pasta, breast
of duck, rack of lamb, etc. Low fat and

tion for moderately-priced seafood from
Florida, Boston and the Great Lakes. The
atmosphere is lively and informal with a
fresh raw bar and early dining specials.

among the top gourmet Chinese restau-
rants in this area, Ah Wok is also still a
big favorite on standard traditional din-
ing. For years, adventurous customers
have enjoyed the elaborate offerings
with their imaginative style of prepara-
tion which have proven delightful palate-

Cicero's Ristorante & Bar, 24299

one of the newest Italian restaurants in
the Northwest Metropolitan area, Jim
and Chris Stevens, husband and wife
owners of Cicero's, know they are buck-
ing a lot of competition. But the sight of
customers coming back is a great sign.
It is open Mon.-Thurs. 11 to 10; Fri. &
Sat. 11 to midnight and Sun. 4 to 9,
serving Northern and Southern Italian
cuisine, fine wines, homemade desserts
and fresh fish like whitefish, lake perch
and plank salmon.
OAK PARK
Bread Basket Deli, 10Y Mile and
Greenfield, Lincoln Shopping Center,
Oak Park, 968-0022. A favorite of
many people for breakfast, lunch, din-
ner and after-theater, this has the aura of
a modernistic delicatessen so apparent
with colorful decor. A children's menu is
featured along with party trays. The
Bread Basket Deli is open Tuesday
through Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Golden Bowl, 22106 Coolidge at
9 Mile, Oak Park, 398-5502. The
knowledge of Chef Frank Eng is wide-
spread in Chinese dining. Golden Bowl
is open seven days, Mon.-Thurs. from
11 a.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. serv-
ing Szechuan, Mandarin and Cantonese
food. Carryout service is available plus
banquet facilities.

rant on the former Pontiac Trail site of

days, Tuesday-Thursday, 5 p.m. to 10
p.m.;Triday and Saturday 5 p.m. to 11
p.m.; Sunday 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Reser-
vations are accepted for any evening.
PONTIAC
LaFendi, 27060 Evergreen, Lathrup
Landing, Lathrup, 559-9099. An ele-
gant atmosphere, where all areas are a
different decor make up this popular Mid-
dle Eastern restuaurant. many of the dish-
es are not found in too many dining spots
of its type. Fresh squeezed fruits and veg-
etables make up the row juice bar which
people enjoy seven days a week at all
hours.
Pike Street, 18 West Pike Street, Pon-
tiac, 334-7878. This fine dining stand-
by is noted for its excellent cuisine and
service. It features the imaginative pre-
sentations of Executive Chef Darin
Moore, a member of the U.S. Culinary
Olympic team that will compete in 1996
in Berlin. Its wine list and gourmet-styled
menu items present a wide selection from
which to choose. Banquet facilities are
available for all events.
LIVONIA
ROYAL OAK
D. Dennison's Seafood Tavern

said about this dine in and carry-out
restaurant whose specialties of broasted
or bar-bq chicken and bar-b-q ribs have
received much attention, but as regular
customers say, the proof is in the tasting.

Fri. & Sat. 11-11.
SOUTI-IFTELD
Alia's, 27167 Greenfield, Southfield,
559-8222. A good family restaurant
serving American and Lebanese cuisine,
Alia's. owners Dania and Ed Farah are
proud of their homemade specialties pre-
pared from natural ingredients. It is open
7 days a week serving breakfast, lunch
and dinner. Carry-out of its entire menu
is available as is off-premise catering.
Excalibur, 28875 Franklin Rd., South-
field, 358-3355. When former owner
Pat Archer passed on, people said Ex-
calibur would also go. However, they
didn't reckon with Marty Wilk, own-
er/chef who has made it one of Met-
ropolitan Detroit's markedly popular
dining and dancing spots. It's Frank Sina-
tra's favorite while in the local area.
Entertainment is Tues. thru Sot. and com-
plete catering at Excolibur plus homes,
halls, etc.
Gateway Deli, 21754 W. 11 Mile,

A different touch has been given this pop-
ular delicatessen-restaurant by owner Pe-
ter Bershaj. His assortment of gourmet
dishes are brought from Peter's former
Larco's days, and are combined with
familiar traditional homemade Jewish
dishes. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, party
trays and outside catering are Gateway
Deli standouts.
McVee's Sports Bar & Grill,
23380 Telegraph Road, Southfield, 352-
8243. This is more than just another sports
bar and grill restaurant. Veteran restau-
rateur Herman Yagoda features char-
broiled steaks, fresh seafood, large
burgers, baby-back ribs and lamb chops
that he defies others to beat. Also home-
made soups and daily specials at both
lunch and dinners, with moderate prices
in a casual and relaxed atmosphere.
New Seoul Garden, 27566 North-
western, Southfield, 827-1600. Au-
thenticity is brought to the table where
favorites such as beef, chicken and
shrimp are prepared on a barbeque grill
in front of customers. Floor seating and
a sushi bar also add to its appeal. Au-
thentic Korean and Japanese dishes are
the theme foods at this restaurant with a
sister Seoul Garden in Sterling Heights.
Peking Garden, 29875 North-

nan and Chinese dishes are available
for dinners and carryout seven days a

new atmosphere of this awaited restau-
rant is accented by the fine Oriental food

ual taste presentations are offered by
two restaurants which stand out for their
dining diversities. T.C. Linguine with its
Italian fare and Tango's Cocktail Lounge
that features a bistro atmosphere with
enterta inment for dancing. The many ser-
vices offered by Radisson Plaza at Town
Center has given it a high rating by ho-
tel periodicals.
