differences come from individ-
uals, not countries," said
Tonkonogui, the only married
member.
The quartet has been espe-
cially proud of concerts
planned for the Seattle Inter-
national Music Festival and
the city's Jewish Community
Center, featuring compositions
only by renowned Jewish corn-
posers at the center.
The musicians would like to
play even more concerts than
their current schedule of 15 per
year. With a recording of a
piece by American composer
Daniel Asia behind them, they
want to complete more record-
ings and are commissioning a
piece by contemporary com-
poser Giya Kancheli, who is
from Soviet Georgia and now
lives in Belgium.
Next April, the two men will ■
make a U-turn in their concert
schedule, while the women will
take a new direction. The in-
strumentalists will head for a
Moscow music festival, where
the women will make their
Russian debut and strengthen
their cultural bridge. ❑
