Celebration
The Conservative Movement
scholar in residence program will
celebrate the tri-millennium of
Jewish Jerusalem in an evening
of art, music and teaching 7:30
p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 15, at
Congregation B'nai Moshe.
Rabbi Reuven Hammer will be
the speaker. Members of the Can-
tors Council of Detroit will present
selected musical highlights. A dis-
play of art work from students en-
rolled in congregational afternoon
religious schools and Hillel Day
School will portray modern and
biblical Jerusalem through the
eyes of Jewish youngsters.

Jewish educators, lay leaders
and clergy from the Metropoli-
tan Detroit and surrounding
communities are invited to he
third annual NIUM Jewish Ed-
ucator's Conference, "B'zelem
Elohim: In God's Image." Spon-
sored by the Agency for Jewish
education and in cooperation
with the Jewish Educators Coun-
cil, the conference will be held on
Sunday, Nov. 5, from 8:45 a.m.-
2:45 p.m. at Temple Israel.
After registration and a conti-
nental breakfast, the event will
open with a presentation by
Debbie Friedman, singer, song-
writer and educator, and Rabbi
Elliot Dorff, rector and professor
of philosophy from the Univer-
sity of Judaism in Los Angeles.
They will discuss Jewish text
and introduce original songs by
Ms. Friedman.
Participants will then have
the opportunity to participate in
morning and afternoon work-
shop sessions. A buffet lunch will
be provided between workshop
sessions.
There is a fee for the program
which includes breakfast, lunch

Rabbi Reuven Hammer will
speak at the weekly Conservative
Movement Torah and lunch pro-
gram, Thursday, Nov. 9, starting
at 12:30 p.m. in the Max M. Fish-
er Jewish Federation building.
Lunch will be available for a fee;
reservations are requested. Rab-
bi Hammer has titled his com-
ments, "The Trial of Abraham or
the Binding of Isaac? Reinter-
preting the Akeda."
